The President's Message
Dear ACC Houston Members:
On behalf of ACC Houston’s Board of Directors, I’d like to thank you, our membership, for your support of ACC Houston. Without you, ACC Houston would not be the success that it is with more than 1100 members, 58 sponsors / partners and 70 CLE and social events. Our Board is a dynamic and hard-working Board that I’d like to introduce you to by way of our Chapter Leadership Page.
I’m proud to work with such a diverse, robust, thoughtful, ethical and intelligent group of people. And as a result - what a year we’ve had! We added 2 new practice groups: Environmental Law and Health Law, which have proven to be very informative and well-attended. In addition, the Board is participating in a Street Law Program at Early College High School in Alief ISD. For those of you who are not familiar with Street Law, it’s a program that partners with the legal community to tap the knowledge of lawyers and legal professionals in partnership with schools to teach young people about the legal profession. Our Board of Directors will be teaching high school students at Early College High School in November about contracting, employment and immigration law. We plan to offer this volunteer opportunity to our members and sponsors in 2020. More to come!
We also partnered with The Texas Lawbook in 2019 to host Houston’s Corporate Counsel Awards and planning for 2020 is well underway! Look for the call for nominations in the next few weeks in these categories:
Lifetime Achievement Award
Corporate M&A Deal of the Year
Senior In-House Counsel of the Year Award
Community & Public Service Award
Innovative/Creative Partnership Award
Business Litigation of the Year Award
Rookie of the Year
Corporate Legal Dept. Diversity Award
Law Firm Diversity Award
General Counsel of the Year
Don’t forget that a complimentary subscription to The Texas Lawbook is available to all ACC Houston members. If you aren’t subscribing yet and would like to please go to their website to sign up and let them know you are a member of ACC Houston. Additionally, I’d like to recognize our sponsors, who dedicate time, talent and resources to cohost amazing events and CLEs with ACC Houston. Our commitment to them is that we assist in hosting these events by providing them with logistics and topic suggestions along with access to you. Our sponsors appreciate and count on your attendance! And you deliver! Our events are so well-attended that they fill up and we often have to close registration, which is all good news UNLESS you are registered and then unable to attend. If your plans change, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can release your spot to somebody else in a timely manner. You can email us (Elena Baer – our top notch Chapter Executive Director) or go to our website at (www.acc.com/houston). Our sponsors spend a considerable amount of time and money on these events and knowing what to plan for is not only important logistically, it is imperative to our long-term ability to deliver quality educational and networking events to you.
Finally, it is ACC Annual Meeting time beginning next Sunday, October 27th in Phoenix. Many of our Board Members will be attending along with many of you. If you are attending, please join us for our Member Happy Hour on Tuesday, October 29th at the award-winning restaurant The Breadfruit and Rum Bar at 6 p.m. Please feel free to bring a guest. Invitations went out this week so you can register on our website or simply reply to this email!
On behalf of the ACC Houston Board of Directors, we look forward to greeting you at our remaining 2019 events (including our Holiday Party on December 19th at The Houstonian Manor House) as well at an action-packed 2020 schedule (including Golf Spa on March 31st at Hotel ZaZa with golf at Wild Cat Golf Course)!
