IT'S TIME TO NOMINATE!
____________________________________________________________________________________________________

2020 DFW Corporate Counsel Award Nominations are Open Through December 10
The Texas Lawbook
and the Dallas-Fort Worth Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel are now accepting nominations
for the 2020 DFW Outstanding Corporate Counsel Awards.

This year, corporate general counsel and senior in-house lawyers at companies across North Texas faced challenges
like no they never had before. But through it all – COVID-19 pandemic, crisis in the oil patch, cyberattacks and bankruptcies
– in-house counsel have been creative and done some of the best legal work of their career.

In 2020, we have witnessed a record number of corporate restructurings. There have been mergers – some small, some huge,
some because of necessity, some more strategic and opportunistic. Diversity, inclusion, pro bono and public service
were never more important than in 2020.

Now, it is time to recognize and celebrate those achievements.

Follow up and Recording Link to September 24 Social Justice Panel Discussion

We had a wonderful time with our Chapter’s Annual Meeting on September 24.  To say it was a success is an understatement.  Considering this was the first in-person event for not only the ACC-DFW chapter since the pandemic but also for all ACC chapters in the United States,  our attendance was impressive with more than 150 in person and another 200 plus joining us virtually. And for those of you who attended in person, thank you for following the safety guidelines that we implemented.  I also want to thank my Board members, especially Olesja Cormney and Dana Collins who were the co-chairs of this event, and of course our Executive Director Susan Harvey.

Our day got off to an amazing start with our morning CLE, “Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable by Engaging in Good Trouble: An Honest Interactive Panel Discussion on Social Justice.”  Thanks to our event sponsors Baker McKenzie LLP and Legility and to all of our panelists both those in person and who appeared virtually, as well as those who assisted with the pre-taped vignettes.  As we all know, the pandemic has not been the only thing in the forefront of 2020.  Social justice helps all of us work toward celebrating diversity in our communities and our workplaces.  We all need to understand and accept people from diverse backgrounds, as well as those with disabilities.  By doing so it will help us better tackle real-world problems by looking at them from multiple viewpoints.  The event was not presented to shame anyone but to have people listen and open their minds (if they weren’t already opened), and spark discussion and action.

We have had many requests for a recording of the 2 ½ hour discussion. Due to the large file size, we are posting via two options:

  1. Download the video directly from dropbox with  this link .
  2. Watch on Youtube: Click Here

You are welcome to share it with family, friends and colleagues.  And, if you weren’t here in person or virtually last week, please find the time to take a look.

Stay well.
