
Board Member Job Description
Description:
The Board of Directors functions as the chief governing body of the ACC Northeast chapter. Board members shall have authority and responsibility for supervising the general operation of the chapter in the furtherance of its stated purpose, mission, and goals. Each Board Member is directly accountable to the President of the Board for performance of the stated duties.
Responsibilities and Expectations:
Becoming a volunteer member of the board of ACC Northeast is a commitment of time and energy. It is expected that board members:
- Will actively volunteer their time to carry out the goals of the chapter mission statement. This includes:
- attending board meetings;
- serving on committees;
- participating as panelists at programs;
- attending networking and other professional functions;
- soliciting sponsors;
- encouraging existing and prospective chapter members to become similarly involved; and,
- attending four or more ACCNE programs per year.
- Will participate in the formulation of the chapter's strategic and/or short and long-range plans including annual goals and objectives;
- Will contribute to the development, approval, and monitoring of the chapter annual budget;
- Will evaluate chapter policies and programs as appropriate and make appropriate recommendations;
- Will bring member issues and concerns to the attention of the Board of Directors for consideration and action;
- May chair a committee or special task force and/or serve as a member of or liaison to at least one committee, as assigned by the President and/or Board of Directors;
- Will familiarize themselves with the workings of the chapter and endeavor to assist wherever possible;
- Will actively solicit new members for the chapter;
- Will perform any other non-specified duties necessary to further the business of the chapter as duly authorized by President and/or Board of Directors;
- Term of Office: Six years.
Expectations of Sponsor Liaisons:
It is expected that all board members will act as a sponsor liaison, maintaining a good relationship with a selected sponsor to ensure that all sponsors are pleased with their support of the Northeast chapter. This could include:
- regular calls with the sponsor to ensure they are taking advantage of their benefits;
- attending the educational program given by the sponsor; and,
- making themselves available to the sponsor for any questions or concerns.
Expectations of Committee Chairs:
- To propose a co-chair from the chapter's membership for appointment by the president of the chapter;
- To recruit other committee members, both from the Board and from the general chapter membership; and,
- To conduct the business of the committee pursuant to the bylaws and to keep the Board members of the chapter apprised of the committee's work.
Qualifications:
- Active ACC member in good standing within the organization with a demonstrated commitment to the organization;
- Employed as in-house counsel within the ACC Northeast Chapter’s service region;
- Demonstrated leadership skills, strong business acumen, and a commitment to perform in an orderly and responsible manner all duties of the office.
Preferred Qualifications:
In-house attorney with a recognized track record in the profession.
