ACC LOUISIANA Volunteers!
ACC Louisiana participated in ACC's Global Community Service Month last September. We partnered with the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program (BTNEP) and met at their farm to pot trees and divide marsh grasses. These plants are ultimately used in their coastal restoration program. This year, we worked with BTNEP to actually plant the marsh grasses in Fourchon, Louisiana. BTNEP is one of 28 National Estuary Programs throughout the US, and it works to protect and preserve the culture and the land located between the Mississippi and Atchafalaya Rivers in Southeast Louisiana. The marsh grass planting is an effort to restore land masses that were lost to coastal erosion. The area we planted was, at one point, completely submerged. Through BTNEP's efforts, the land is being reclaimed. Volunteer efforts are a family affair, and our chapter intends to continue our volunteer efforts with BTNEP.
