Case studies will be used to demonstrate how parties can mitigate the risk of disputes when drafting contracts. Topics that will be covered include how to create an effective contractual machinery, account for applicable law and avoid common drafting errors that can significantly increase liability if disputes arise.

Nils Eliasson is a partner in the International Arbitration practice. He acts as counsel or arbitrator in commercial and investment treaty disputes conducted under the auspices of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Center (HKIAC), International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Singapore International Arbitration Center (SIAC), London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), CIETAC, Vienna International Arbitration Center (VIAC), German International Arbitration Institute (DIS) and the International Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC), as well as in ad hoc proceedings under the UNCITRAL arbitration rules. Nils’ experience includes disputes related to joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, energy, oil and gas, infrastructure, construction, engineering, license disputes, telecommunications, and real estate. He has also handled investment treaty arbitrations under various bilateral investment treaties and the Energy Charter Treaty. He is a member of the HKIAC Council, the decision-making and governing body of the HKIAC, and the Chairman of the HKIAC Proceedings Committee. |

Edward Taylor is a senior associate in the International Arbitration practice. Edward represents and advises companies, States and State-owned entities in commercial and investment treaty disputes. He has experience of arbitrations conducted under the auspices of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), Cairo Regional Centre for Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA), as well as ad hoc proceedings under the UNCITRAL arbitration rules. Edward's practice includes disputes related to energy, oil and gas, infrastructure, telecommunications, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and real estate. He regularly advises on complex multi-jurisdictional disputes as well as antibribery and corruption matters arising out of cross-border transactions. He has previously worked on the implementation of an arbitration compensation scheme in the media sector. Edward is a solicitor advocate in England and Wales with experience of arbitration-related court proceedings, including arbitrator challenges and the enforcement of arbitral awards. |
