TOPIC: Anti-Money Laundering Update: What You Need to Know


The session will cover:

  • The new AML Ordinance (AMLO) which extends customer due diligence obligations to designated professionals such as lawyers and accountants,
  • Key AMLO provisions
  • AML guidelines by regulators
  • Disciplinary action by the financial services regulators under AMLO against financial institutions,
  • Recent AML (dealing with the proceeds of crime) prosecutions, and
  • Practical tips for compliance with Hong Kong’s various AML laws.

Jill Wong

Jill Wong, Partner

Head of Regulatory Practice

Jill specialises in financial services and corporate regulatory and compliance issues. She was previously Deputy General Counsel at the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and was in-house counsel at Credit Suisse. Her unique experience allows her to provide in-depth and constructive insights and she advises on both on contentious and non-contentious issues.

Jill is co-author of "Securities and Futures Ordinance : Commentary & Annotations"  Sweet & Maxwell, 4th edition, and a member of the HKICPA Disciplinary Committee and the British Chamber of Commerce Financial Markets Committee.  Jill regularly speaks on regulatory matters; in 2018 the hot topics have been financial crime (including AML/CTF), fintech and market misconduct.
