Navigating Work/Life Balance: Tools for Employers and Employees
October 18, 2023 | 12 - 1 pm | Zoom

Join the ACC Houston Chapter and Gibson Arnold & Associates for a lively discussion on Navigating Work/Life Balance: Tools for Employers and Employees. This one-hour event will provide members with tools and exercises in an interactive online session. RSVP today for this extraordinary webinar event.

Work/life balance – is it a catchy phrase or something that affects everything? Post-pandemic, the idea of work/life balance has a new meaning both psychologically and in terms of policy making. In this session we will investigate:

•    How do different generations view work/life balance?
•    What are employers doing to attract and retain employees that are seeking more balance between work, family, and pleasure?
•    What are organizational scholars and psychologists saying about productivity and health related to work/life balance?
•    Is remote working increasing corporate revenues and employee salaries, while offering more work/life balance?
•    If I am working remotely, how do I keep a seat at the table and grow my career effectively versus those that are working in the office?
•    What are the pros and cons of remote, hybrid, and in-office models?
•    I’m a homebody and prefer remote work versus the classic type A personality – tools for both.

In-house counsel in the U.S. are moving from state to state now more than ever. If you are going to work as in-house counsel in a state where you are not licensed, what do you need to consider?

You have your law degree, and you're an in-house attorney, but have you ever thought about an alternative career? This exciting panel style discussion will focus on using your legal skills to explore and attain other non-legal opportunities in your organization. We have three great panelists, Michelle Booth (EVP, Administration – H.G. Fenton Company), Debora Burke (VP and General Counsel – General Dynamics NASSCO) , and Caroline Perry (Chief Operating Officer – San Diego Padres), who will be joining us to share their own journeys and how they made the not-so-easy decision to take the leap. Additionally, we will be discussing the supportive teams that helped champion their role transitions, and how sponsorship and mentorship provide different value adds along the way. Mark your calendars as this is an event you don't want to miss!

The program will cover the “hot issues” in contracting with AI vendors. Privacy, Cybersecurity and Data Rights issues are receiving significant public attention as the move to leverage new forms of AI (e.g., LLMs) and the proliferation of vendors using AI increases. On whatever the side of the contracting process your organization sits, you will want to be able to understand the risks in the AI supply chain and consider the impact on your contracting process. The presentation will discuss generally how AI processes data and generates results so that attendees can better understand the corresponding contract risks.
