As part of that process, employers must continually review and revise leave policies and practices as laws change and evolve. Because the laws and regulations governing employee benefit plans are complex and ever changing, those responsible for employee benefit plans should constantly check their plans and procedures to ensure compliance. Paying close attention to your benefit plan documents and plan operations will help keep them up-to-date and the plan sponsor in the good graces of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the Department of Labor (DOL). Taking steps to proactively review and monitor your benefit plans before you receive an audit notice from the IRS or DOL allows you time to identify potential problems and correct errors in your documents or operations. These are some helpful tips about common errors and elements to include in your employee benefit plan review.
