In light of Veteran’s Day, the Pro Bono Committee would like to inform you about a nationwide organization called The Veteran’s Consortium (https://www.vetsprobono.org/) which is hosting an upcoming seminar on November 11, 2020.
What better way to mark Veteran’s Day than to learn how you can assist a veteran in need? Please join The Veterans Consortium (TVC) Pro Bono Programs Volunteer Attorney Training!
The Honorable Margaret Bartley, Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, will welcome attendees and offer opening remarks.
This two-hour training, led by TVC attorneys, will teach you how to help veterans appeal unfavorable rulings by the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). These appeals involve a wide range of VA disability, educational assistance and survivor benefit and pension benefit claims. Veterans come to TVC because a claim has been denied, or their disability compensation has been reduced or terminated.
Following the training, you will have access to TVC’s website of available cases. These cases offer great opportunities to partner with colleagues or clients. For approximately (40) hours per case, you will gain valuable first chair and appellate experience, while helping to further TVC’s mission.
This webinar is complimentary, and continuing legal education credit for 2.0 hours is pending.
While Las Vegas may be largely shut-down, work continues – mostly remotely – and the need to maintain confidentiality of privileged communications has never been greater. This presentation will provide an overview of the attorney-client privilege, a brief survey of how courts apply the privilege to communications involving in-house counsel, and give the audience practical guidance to protecting privileged and confidential communications. It will include hypotheticals and explore the impact of increased remote working arrangements on maintaining privileged communications.
Limitation of Liability Clauses: What Contractors and In-house Counsel Need to Know
If you are a construction professional today, your template contract has a standard limitation of liability clause, but is it enforceable? This one-hour CLE presentation is directed towards in-house counsel and risk managers for those who build as owner/contractors, general contractors/construction managers or trade contractors. You will hear from experienced construction attorneys Roy Wagner and Lauren Triebenbach, who will examine how the effectiveness and enforceability of contractual clauses intended to eliminate, limit, or transfer liability to others. Topics will include:
Attorneys at Stinson along with Alex Arellano, General Counsel of the American Airlines Center, will highlight common contract
drafting issues resulting in unnecessary exposure for parties. On the Corporate Finance front, Stinson will address and provide solutions to everyday contract drafting challenges.
Join us as we discuss the common issues in-house counsel face with insurance coverage which will include responding to a storm or natural disaster and improving cyber insurance coverage.
Join us for a virtual roundtable discussion and virtual happy hour looking ahead to 2021 and the Labor and Employment Law issues and priorities on the horizon.
While we obviously want to steer clear of political debates, arguments, talking over each other, vote/mask shaming, etc., let's celebrate the approaching end of 2020, and find out what changes we can look for in Labor & Employment Law in 2021.
Discussion includes:
Anticipated legislative agenda and priorities
Executive Orders, including likely priorities for repeal and reissue
Likely priorities for the NLRB, EEOC, DOL and OSHA
Pending U.S. Supreme Court decisions, the new (un)balance on the Court, and potential packing of judges
We’ll have some fun and include polling/voting and enjoying a beverage of your choice (perhaps champagne in celebration of the election outcome, beer to cry into . . .)
