The Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s annual Corporate Equality Index is the national benchmarking tool on corporate policies and practices pertinent to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) employees.

From 2002 to today, America’s largest and most successful businesses have moved to implement inclusive workplace policies, practices and benefits to best attract, retain and engage LGBTQ talent and to access the lucrative LGBTQ marketplace.

This session builds the robust business case for inclusion while tracing the history and impact of the CEI.

In this tight labor market, many companies are wisely doubling-down on their diversity and inclusion focus.  In this presentation we will discuss the important role that internal communication can have on these efforts, with a specific focus on reducing micro-aggressions and implicit bias in the workplace.

Description:

In 2020, the T-Mobile Technology team began looking at historical terms that have been deemed as offensive, and creating a roadmap to change those terms. The initial focus was on replacing the technology terms of master/slave and blacklist/whitelist to more inclusive terminology. This effort grew, and started looking at terms across the corporate landscape. Cathy Sindos, Group Project Manager at T-Mobile and a core team member leading this movement, will give an overview of this journey.

During this presentation, we'll explore what inclusive language is, and provide examples, to ensure you create a more inclusive workplace environment and more inclusive legal materials.

Speaker:

Catherine Sindos (she/her) | Sr Program Manager | T-Mobile

Cathy has over 25 years in the Communications Industry with a focus on Information Technology. In addition to being an IT Professional, she also serves as a Senior Diversity, Equity & Inclusion leader at T-Mobile. In this leadership role, she designs, develops and delivers on the Diversity Equity & Inclusion Technology strategy and programs in close partnership with key stakeholders across the company to embed Diversity into our culture, and create a greater sense of Equity and Inclusion for employees. Cathy lives in the Washington, DC Metro area with her family.

EMBEDDING DE&I IN YOUR LEGAL DEPARTMENT’S DNA

Increasingly, in-house counsel are learning to use data to show their executive leadership how they're helping their companies meet their strategic goals and increase revenue. Part of this transformation included using data to impact and improve the legal industry or society with their purchasing decisions and demonstrating how they are contributing to the company's diversity, equity and inclusion goals through their recruitment, retention, advancement and promotion of internal talent and  their supply chain with outside counsel.  This is easier said than done.  Internally, it means balancing DEI legal operations requirements with the normal day-to-day legal work within the department. Externally, figuring out what the hiring criteria for outside counsel are, what data is needed from outside counsel, and how to work through any limitations are common challenges. Join this session to learn what the best-in-class in-house teams are doing to address these challenges, what data is being collected, the technology tools they are using to do so, and how they break through resistance to demonstrate how diverse teams benefit clients.

This article looks at different types of data that employers can use to publish their pay gaps and to outline the potential advantages that may arise from the report.

DEI continues to grow in importance as companies search for ways to expand their diversity efforts. Gender identity and race issues surface every day, as do the legal issues tied to these topics. What are the potential pitfalls from taking different courses of action, including legal risks that could lead to lawsuits?

This Lunch and Learn, presented by Payne & Fears LLP, will outline the current laws in Utah and highlight some actions companies can take to stay in compliance and show progress in DEI.

Topics include:

-Gender salary gaps

-Policy reviews

-Hiring outreach (how to widen the net)

-Complaint process / resolution

-Diversity training

-Ways to demonstrate diversity accomplishments

We also will hear the steps one Utah company has taken to accelerate its own DEI efforts and lessons learned along the way.

Please feel free to invite your heads of Human Resources or other executives who may benefit from this important topic. You may register for more than one person simultaneously. Register now!

This live program offers free CLE in limited jurisdictions for members of ACC. Please see the bottom of the program description for additional details:
