Government Contractors today depend on advanced technology and information systems to support their customers’ missions, yet face a rapidly evolving threat environment, as shown in the SolarWinds, Colonial Pipeline, and Microsoft Exchange attacks.  Manufacturing shortages for critical components only magnify these risks.

Recent and coming regulation is setting new standards for government contractor supply chains, and long-standing tools like the Defense Production Act are seeing renewed attention.

This program will cover the current landscape, and what contractors should be considering in preparing for the road ahead.

This program will cover:
* Issues facing defense and national security supply chains
* Potential supply chain impacts arising under President Biden’s Cybersecurity EO
* Current trends regarding supplier exclusions (e.g., Section 889 of the FY2019 NDAA)
* Risk mitigation strategies for addressing supply chain disruptions and shortages

Presented by Justin A. Chiarodo, Partner and Chair, Government Contracts Practice and Robyn N. Burrows, Associate, at Blank Rome LLP, Viet Tran, Senior Counsel at Raytheon Technologies and Alicia K. Lynch, Senior Vice President and Chief Security Officer at Cognizant.

Each passing year puts boards of directors in an ever more complicated environment of legislative and regulatory burdens, shareholder and other stakeholder activism, and economic and political pressures.  The past year brought more complications than most and having an effective board of directors is more vital than ever.  Whether sitting on a public or private company board, directors must ensure they are addressing the numerous competing interests and ultimately discharging their fiduciary duties.

Join our panelists as they discuss the latest thinking on the elements and practical aspects of a high-functioning board, a well-structured board meeting, and the role of in-house counsel in facilitating board effectiveness.  Components discussed will include the development of a strategic agenda for meetings, the timing and preparation of board informational materials, the relationship between directors and management, the role of lead independent directors, the preparation of minutes, and many other related topics.

Presented by Steve Patterson, Partner at Hunton Andrews Kurth, William Herrmann, Vice President, Sr. Managing Deputy General Counsel & Assistant Corporate Secretary at Amtrak and Shelley Milano, Member, Board of Director of J. Jill (former Executive Vice President, Chief Human Resources Officer and Senior Vice President and General Counsel for L Brands).

You are invited to volunteer for a Pro Bono Clinic with Whitman Walker Health

  • Topic: Name Change Clinic
  • Clients: Low-income transgender individuals
  • When: Wednesday, June 30, 10 AM – 11:30 AM (as detailed below, attorneys will self-schedule training prior to June 30; attorneys will schedule their client meetings after June 30)
  • Where: Virtual
  • Who: DC, Maryland, and Virginia-barred attorneys
  • Experience: None required
  • Pre-Training:   2 to 4 hours. Volunteer attorneys are asked to watch at least 2 online trainings prior to the date of the clinic (Trans 101 and local jurisdictional training – for best overview).  There are DC, Maryland, and Virginia specific online trainings that are important for attorneys assisting clients in those jurisdictions.
  • Day of Clinic Training (Via Zoom):  20 to 30 minute overview by Whitman Walker and then 1 hour Q&A session
  • Support: Work in teams and a Whitman Walker mentor will be assigned to each team/case assigned.  Resource materials are readily accessible through Google Docs and Whitman Walker holds monthly virtual briefing sessions for all volunteer attorneys to have questions answered and to share tips and new guidance.
  • Time: 6 – 10 hours total spread out over several months
  • Work:  Whitman Walker has a great need for volunteer attorneys to assist local transgender individuals with the name change process. The Covid-19 pandemic has increased the demand for name change assistance and the process even more challenging. Interested clients far exceeds Whitman Walker’s resources. ACC NCR volunteers will be paired up and assigned a single client to assist clients in completing name change documents and will help clients navigate filing the documents with the relevant court system.  Following the session on June 30, interested volunteers will be sent a formal case placement email with client contact information.  Volunteers will be asked to coordinate with the client to meet via Zoom, phone call or work via email within a specified time period.
  • Insurance: Provided by Whitman Walker for all volunteers; volunteers who sign-up for the clinic will be asked to complete a volunteer application/confidentiality statement and return it to Whitman Walker prior to June 29.

    *Please respond by June 23rd
