As younger generations enter the workforce and older individuals opt to work longer, today’s workforce presents unique challenges to employers.  This is especially so when it comes to recruitment and retention, and the related impacts on worker productivity.  The challenge is addressing the needs of generationally diverse employees who often want very different things from their careers, and have different expectations for pay, benefits, and work-life balance.  Join the attorneys from Fisher Phillips in learning more about the issues surrounding the recruitment and retention of Generation Z employees while retaining a productive workforce of Baby Boomers, Generation Xers and Millennials.  The Fisher Phillips team will also discuss how this dynamic is playing out in law firms and in-house legal departments and what you can do to effectively address these unique challenges.

For years, employers have been exploring the possibility of how automated tools (ranging from basic computer screening methods to advanced AI systems) may be able to improve and simplify the hiring process and other employment-related evaluation processes. And now, with NYC Local Law 144 going into effect in 2023, the new frontier of algorithmic decision-making in the workplace – and regulation of the same – is upon us.

NYC Local Law 144 is the most robust law regulating “automated employment decision tools” (AEDTs) to date, and it prohibits employers from using AI in employment decision-making processes unless they take a number of affirmative steps prior to doing so, including a bias audit of the tool. A key aspect of this bias audit is that it can also serve to enhance an employer’s attainment of its diversity, equity, and inclusion goals by ensuring that the use of AEDTs does not foster unintended bias or create unintended workforce disparities.

How should employers consider using AI-based decision tools to ensure compliance with applicable law and in a way that advances workplace equity objectives?

Join Mintz and ACC New York City for an interactive, forward-thinking conversation with in-house peers at Storico as we discuss:

  • How workplaces are adapting to the new law
  • Any challenges they have faced – including best practices learned so far – in ensuring compliance
  • The impact this law is (or isn’t) having on fostering a diverse workforce
  • How these changes impact the legal regulation of the employment relationship
  • Trends beyond NYC

This panel will explore the complex legal, economic and risk-management issues that can arise when a high-level executive separates from employment, either voluntarily or otherwise. Our panelists will provide the perspectives of both in-house and outside legal counsel as well as insight as to information-technology and corporate-security matters. Among the topics covered will be:

  • “You’re hired!” – What if a new executive comes with strings attached?
  • “You’re fired!” -- Is executive employment really at-will?
  • “She took what?” – Securing confidential corporate information and computer systems when an executive separates
  • “He wants how much?” – Handling cash and equity compensation issues
  • “You’ll never eat lunch in this town again!” – Legalities and practicalities of non-compete, non-solicitation, non-disparagement and garden-leave restrictions.

In keeping with tradition, we will be holding an annual year-in-review session summarizing key legal developments and trends for tax-exempt organizations in 2022 and flag what nonprofit in-house counsel should be tracking for 2023. Panelists will highlight hot topics to have on your radar including:
