JOINTLY PRESENT
Warn[ing]! These Policies Could Cause a Rif[t] in Your Business
Presented by: Trina Ricketts and Andrew Birkinsha

Thursday, May 4, 2023

12:00PM – 1:00PM
AT

Plaza Meeting Space KC
700 W 47th Street, Ste. 120, Kansas City, MO 64112

Free parking is available directly across the street from the building on the NE corner of 47th and Jefferson. Check-in begins at 11:30am and lunch is provided.

Program Description:  Layoffs are back in the news in a big way, as the economy continues to struggle. And, the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act (and its state counterparts) and reductions in force (RIF) can be very difficult for employers to navigate, from a legal, practical, and even emotional standpoint. Join this presentation for an overview of everything from designing RIF policies and selection documents to maintaining compliance with complex and sometimes ambiguous WARN Act requirements.

 Discussion Topics and Objectives include:

  • RIF Design (20 minutes)
  • WARN Compliance (20 minutes)
  • Policies that impact RIFS (20 minutes)

We encourage members to bring an associate or colleague that may be interested in joining the ACC Mid-America Chapter. The Association of Corporate Counsel offers numerous benefits and resources to in-house counsel including CLE offerings and networking opportunities and we look forward to sharing that information with others in the field.

Attracting investment, licensing opportunities and partnerships is often of paramount importance to many companies. In industries where intellectual property (IP) constitutes the bulk of a company's value, the strength of its patent portfolio can make or break its prospects for continued success. When millions of dollars or even entire businesses are at stake, IP due diligence is essential to determining the full value of the IP involved, to assessing and evaluating the risks, and to determining whether the transaction is in each party's best interests.

During this "Efficient and Effective IP Due Diligence" presentation, Fish attorneys Jason Zucchi and Craig Deutsch share tips, tricks and things to consider when undertaking IP due diligence. Jason and Craig will discuss

  • High-level questions to be answered before diligence commences
  • The ideal composition of experts for the diligence team
  • How to protect yourself during the diligence

Please join us as ACC Chicago hosts its annual community outreach event at Bernie’s Book Bank in Lake Bluff.  Bernie’s Book Bank is like a food depository, except that instead of packaging food, Bernie’s Book Bank collects and packages gently-used children’s books for underserved school children in the Chicago area.

The Chapter will host breakfast for participants, and then the participants will spend 90 minutes sorting and packaging the children’s books. This event will provide both a great opportunity to network with Chapter members and also make a positive difference in the lives of school children across Chicagoland.

This event is open to ACC Chicago members and their families. Space is limited so RSVP soon.  There will be a waiver for minors.

Also, all attendees are invited to bring gently used children’s books to donate to Bernie’s Book Bank.

For more information about Bernie’s Book Bank, please see its website.

Come out and socialize!  Join your ACC Chicago friends for a get-together and games night with a built-in bocce bay, billiard, shuffleboard, chess and checkers tables. Game on!
