This program will be focused on how Corporate Counsel can utilize governmental affairs consultants (lobbyists) to mitigate or eliminate risk created by legislative, regulatory or enforcement activity at the federal or state level.
The first portion of the presentation will look at the vested interest in risk management and the strategic use of government affairs professionals to manage, mitigate and eliminate risk. While Corporate Counsel and their outside counsel almost always have the expertise to address regulatory or enforcement actions, their strategies often can be strengthened or amplified by political action.
The second portion of the presentation will cover ethics and legal compliance topics of which inside counsel should be aware related to government affairs. These federal and state compliance topics include the following:
- Gift rule;
- Lobbying disclosure;
- Campaign finance;
- Political Action Committees; and
- Pay to play government contract rules.
