Recent changes to Australian workplace law are enhancing the protection of employees' personal time. The Fair Work Act 2009(Cth) has introduced an explicit Right to Disconnect, effective on 26 August 2024 (and 26 August 2025 for small businesses). This significant change challenges organisations to reconsider how they manage, engage and empower employees.
To embed these changes effectively, People + Culture teams must collaborate closely with Legal to establish safeguards that respect employees' personal time while maintaining productivity, agility, and responsiveness.

In today’s dynamic, and often challenging, economic environment, in-house teams are under increasing pressure to perform the seemingly impossible – to reduce cost and risk, while optimising long-term value; to shift from “cost centre” to “revenue generator”, and with minimal (if any) additional resources.
The Managing Legal Cost and Risk CDP session will explore industry trends and practical ways for businesses to limit risk and cost while extracting maximum value and cashflow from a notoriously underutilised class of business assets: the company’s available claims and unenforced entitlements.
When every aspect of the business is innovating to do more with less – is this an opportunity to approach claims a little differently too?
Join us for this practical and engaging workshop focused on developing and implementing effective claim management and optimisation strategies. Seats will be limited, so register now to reserve your place.
The past 12 months has seen significant changes to the employee relations landscape. From changes to enterprise bargaining, though to the right to disconnect, same job same pay, new causal and employee definitions (and more), the amendments to the Fair Work Act will impact the way we do business. Join Page Seager Lawyers in this member update on the recent tranche of amendments to industrial relations laws.
Page Seager’s Employment lawyers will:
Summarise the changes brought about by the Closing Loopholes legislation passed in late 2023 and early 2024.
We hope you can join us at an intimate lunch for senior in-house lawyers.
This roundtable event will feature Olivia Perks, General Counsel, University of Sydney and Linda Grace from Ashurst Reach.
Socially sustainable work practices are critical to an organisation's success. There are now five generations of Australians in the workforce, with Millennials and Baby Boomers being almost equally represented in Australia's current talent market. Successful legal teams need to find innovative ways to build cross-generational cultures, make the right investments in staff development and adopt DEI practices which avoid age-related biases.
At this exclusive roundtable, Olivia will share her experiences; and we will then brainstorm successful strategies for managing cross-generational teams in the areas of culture and hiring, training and development, and DEI.
Seats at this event are limited to 15. Please RSVP as soon as possible to secure your place.
Join Archive360, the global leader in unified data governance, for an interactive round table lunch where George Tziahanas, AGC and Vice President of Compliance, will lead a lively and informative discussion on the state of the financial services industry and what the future holds for counsel and legal experts. We will also discuss how some firms are already using the latest technologies and practices to address their legal challenges.
Most organisations today are trying to reconcile how to manage risk associated with large, complex, and ever-increasing volumes of data with the opportunities presented by new AI and ML technologies. Satisfying the needs and obligations of different stakeholders, including the legal team, is increasingly difficult.
We’d love you to be part of our small group of personally invited guests from the financial sector and hear your thoughts and experiences as we talk about the importance of addressing data problems and how a data governance framework, the use of AI/ML, data quality controls, robust security measures, and ethical considerations are vital to ensuring greater trust and control.
Also joining the discussion will be Archive360’s CMO, Marie-Charlotte Patterson, and AsiaPac Regional Director, Brad Rosairo.
The Association of Corporate Counsel Australia, in partnership with Peerpoint by Allen & Overy, are hosting an exclusive, invitation only dinner, on Wednesday, 6 September 2023 at Chiswick Restaurant, Woollahra, with special guest speaker, Kamal Sarma, discussing Why we Need to Unlearn and Relearn: Leadership and Resilience.
He will discuss how fundamental changes in the world related to technology, generations and our attitudes to work have shifted our expectations around leadership. When we pair these changing expectations of leadership with the challenges, constant demands on time, complex decisions, and personalities we all face in our day-to-day, leadership tends to feel all the more complex.
While leadership is an ongoing challenge, it also presents limitless opportunities for growth, including the ability to create a more responsive leadership model. Part of this evolution requires us to unlearn old models of leadership and to apply more effective principles.
Organisational and personal resilience are two of the most powerful traits you can develop and key to high performance work and environment. If we can meet our challenges with the right mindset and skills our well-being and results will flourish. By clearing your mind of repetitive, unhelpful thoughts you can improve your ability to make good decisions. And when you learn how to manage stress and maintain clarity in any situation you positively impact your own life and that of those around you.
Please be aware that this is an invitation only event, with limited seating, so if you are interested in attending, register soon!
We invite you to our first webinar on Wednesday 30 August on the topic: Negotiating and Drafting Effective Indemnities.
Indemnities are one of the most negotiated clauses in many commercial contracts, however the rationale for their use and their effect is often not well understood. The drafting of each indemnity is critical and the devil is in the detail.
In this session Partner, Toby Patten and Senior Associate, Rakhee Dullabh will step through the key features of contractual indemnities and provide a practical checklist of tips and traps to help draft effective indemnities that properly reflect the risk allocation agreed between commercial parties.
