Since the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, employers have been considering how the decision and resulting state legislative activity impact their health plans. What, if anything, should employers be considering regarding access to reproductive services for plan participants? We will discuss the state of the current legal landscape, including recent executive and potential regulatory action, highlight key considerations including ERISA preemption of state laws and share evolving design options for employer-sponsored benefits.

Presented by Joy Napier-Joyce, Principal at Jackson Lewis and Andrea Gehman, Deputy General Counsel at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory.

The modern workplace presents a continually evolving array of ethical issues for in-house counsel. The area of employment law has long been rife with ethical questions, which can only become more complex with the advent of remote and hybrid workplaces. Be prepared to identify and evaluate these challenges early and know how the Virginia Rules of Professional Responsibility apply. We will also examine where and when the Virginia Rules depart from the Model Rules.

This program will explore the ethical landmines waiting in workplace investigations, litigation discovery and related document issues, employee use of social media, employee monitoring, and other challenges presented by remote and hybrid workplaces. We will also examine issues relating to the representation of multiple interests, former employees, and strategies for what to do when things go wrong.

Presented by Elaine Horn and Ryan Scarborough, Partners at Williams & Connolly, Monica Bernstein, Executive Vice President and General Counsel at Crestline Hotels & Resorts, Grey Callaham, Senior Litigation Group Counsel at Johnson Controls and Lakshmi Williams, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary, North America at Transurban.

Most corporate boards are not (yet!) diverse enough even though data tells us diversity matters. Inclusive groups get better results. Some states are legislating diversity requirements for boards -- litigation on the topic is ongoing. Regulators want to influence change as do some investment companies.

Do your career plans include getting on a board? What does it take? Is a "board resume" different? What are the risks and rewards?  At our next ACC women's network (WIN) event we will enjoy a casual Q & A with three outstanding women lawyers about serving on public and private boards.

And speaking of boards, who doesn't love a tasty charcuterie board? We'll experience that, too. And we'll have plenty of time to chat and network.

VIRTUAL ROUND TABLE
Co-Hosted by:
ACC Oil & Gas Group
& Valero's Legal Department

Please join us for a special ACC Round Table CLE discussion on the topic of "Relevant Risk Issues for Corporate Counsel to Consider."

This CLE program will address a variety of risk issues corporate counsel should be aware of, including Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) matters and related disclosure issues, and officer and director liability exposure; OFAC’s sanctions program, including its application, investigations, and civil and criminal liability exposure; and managing risk by proactive coordination between the general counsel’s office and various other functions within the company.

Scratching your head about how best to respond to third-party subpoenas, agency subpoenas, informal requests or Civil Investigative Demands (CIDs)/grand jury subpoenas? This program can help! Join us to hear ways of handling these often vague and burdensome obligations.  Panelists will discuss the rules and statutes governing these kinds of demands, share some incredible war stories, and offer practical advice on handling them efficiently while reducing the risk of having to defend your response to a judge or agency.

Presented by Ryan Spiegel and David Wilson, Partners at Thompson Hine and Brie Jackson, Deputy General Counsel of SoundExchange.

1.5 Hours of VA MCLE pending.

You are invited to our Second “Coffee Break” social event to create community and share experiences.  We recognize the stress of the back to school or college season and know many people are also headed back to their office to work. Let's connect on line for one hour with no agenda and lots of goodwill. We will even have coffee and a pastry delivered to your door - on us!  There is no agenda but lots of goodwill to share, along with coffee and a pastry delivered to your door.

Once you register to attend, you will get the link to order your treat in the confirmation email. Hurry, there are a limited number of spots available for this special event!
