The speakers will provide a very brief overview of the types of intellectual property (IP) and discuss some strategies for blending IP with your business goals and for handling IP disputes. The presentation will touch on IP procurement and enforcement (from both plaintiff and defense perspectives) and steps companies can take to minimize litigation risks. Of course, sometimes litigation is necessary, so we will also discuss some strategies for steering IP litigation toward resolution.

Join ACC Ontario with McCarthy Tétrault as they discuss their recent successful defence of Meta (Facebook) in the Federal Court of Canada suit brought by the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. This case arose out of the Cambridge Analytica incident and is one of the most significant privacy lawsuits ever pursued in Canada. The Privacy Commissioner alleged that Meta breached Canada's federal privacy legislation by disclosing the personal information of Facebook users to third-party apps without the users' consent and by failing to safeguard that information. On April 13, the Federal Court dismissed the Privacy Commissioner’s suit, finding all allegations unproven.

Hear from our trial experts, as they share their experiences and key takeaways for consumer-facing organizations when dealing with privacy laws, third-party apps and the Privacy Commissioner.
