Speakers

Hon. Maria Paperny K.C. is a Senior Counsel at BLG, who retired in 2023 after 23 years on the Courts of Appeal of Alberta, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut. She also served on the Court Martial Appeal Court of Canada and previously spent five years as a trial judge on the Court of King’s Bench. Over her judicial career, Ms. Paperny authored 1,500+ decisions and shaped precedent in areas including corporate-commercial, insolvency, administrative, energy, constitutional, family, and criminal law.

 

Hon. Sonya Savage K.C. is a leading energy advocate with experience in government, industry, and private practice. She served as Alberta’s Minister of Environment, Energy, and Justice, held senior roles at Enbridge and the Canadian Energy Pipeline Association, and practiced as a litigator for 13 years. She holds an LLM focused on the National Energy Board.

 

Melinda Park K.C. is the Regional Managing Partner, for BLG

Melinda is focused on growing client relationships, investing in local talent and reinforcing the firm’s commitment to service, integrity and community connection. In addition to her leadership role, she brings more than 30 years of experience in corporate and securities law, with 20 years of her practice spent at BLG, with a strong focus on mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance.
