Join us as we look back and summarize legal trends and developments applicable to tax-exempt organizations that occurred over the course of 2020, including:
· The Section 512(a)(6) unrelated business taxable income “silo” regulations;
· The CARES Act loan programs that were made available to nonprofits;
· New Internal Revenue Service precedent on cost-sharing arrangements between for-profit and nonprofit affiliates;
· Nonprofit responses to racial justice developments and First Amendment activity;
· Final regulations addressing Form 990 donor disclosure for certain Section 501(c) organizations;
· The Section 4960 excess renumeration regulations; and much more.
The program will also delve into tax-exempt legal developments that are likely to unfold in 2021, along with a robust anecdotal discussion of new legal issues and concerns that in-house counsel have personally observed over the course of the past year.

Presented by Ezra Reese, Partner, Katherine LaBeau, Counsel, Jacquelyn K. Lopez, Counsel, and Emma Olson Sharkey, Associate at Perkins Coie and Jennifer Shipp, General Counsel at Heising-Simons Foundation.

Let’s spend 30 minutes, maybe a little less/maybe a little more, and catch up with each other. This will be a casual zoom call to share how we’ve been, what’s new, what’s not new, and how we’re all hanging in there. Drinks are optional but encouraged. It is a Happy ½ Hour after all. We might just have a surprise or two in store. But spending time seeing each other is the point and professional development is the goal.

Today’s political climate and social media make work environments more challenging. Join us as we cover:

  • Real-life examples
  • Statutory considerations in addressing political conversations in the workplace
  • Preserving harmony, inclusiveness, and efficiency in the workplace
  • Establishing best practices

In addition, we will discuss what to expect in terms of changes to employment-related laws/policies at the Federal level under the Biden administration. Topics include:

  • Diversity and inclusion training
  • Emboldened EEOC and NLRB
  • OSHA oversight/covid-19 safety

During this session we will review the major legal developments government contractors faced in 2020. This challenging year was also a very busy one, with the federal, and state and local, governments not only taking major roles in the pandemic response but continuing to advance a number of broad-based initiatives. For example, in addition to the special COVID-related contracting actions, the federal government’s requirements and executive action in areas such as defense, cyber security/cloud, supply chain, and labor compliance were arguably as intense as they have ever been.

We will discuss the key cases, laws and regulations from 2020, as well as some lessons for contractors from the federal government’s use of the Defense Production Act, PREP Act and other extraordinary contracting actions in what was truly an extraordinary year.

Presented by Greg Jacobs and Erin Felix, Shareholders of Polsinelli PC, Andrea Vavonese, Corporate Director, Division Counsel at Northrop Grumman and Won Lee, Associate General Counsel at General Dynamics Mission Systems.
