In 2019, the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice released its long-awaited “Evaluation of Corporate Compliance Programs in Criminal Antitrust Investigations.”  These guidelines explain how the Division will evaluate antitrust compliance programs when considering enforcement against an alleged antitrust violator.  Although the contents are not entirely surprising, they differ in some respects from the guidelines released earlier by the Fraud Division of the Department of Justice, and from the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.

At this program an expert panel representing government, private practitioners, in-house counsel and academia will discuss how to understand these guidelines and apply them in a way most likely to persuade the Antitrust Division of the good intent of the company – and to reduce the chances of an antitrust violation!

ACC Chicago and the Institute for Consumer Antitrust, Loyola University Chicago School of Law invite you to attend.  Lunch will be provided, along with ample time for questions and discussion.

If CLE is not needed, please RSVP to antitrust@luc.edu

Join us for a CLE presentation on the implications of the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), which went into effect on January 1.  CCPA will have significant implications for companies that collect personal information about California residents, even if the company is not based in California.  Among other things, the law gives residents new rights regarding their personal information and creates large potential statutory damage risk for data breaches.

Join us to learn more about CCPA and how it can impact your organization.

You are invited to join us for an interactive panel discussion about what you need to understand and prepare for when entering into a mediation and what can you do as a participant to give your mediation the best chance to succeed. Mediation is much less formal than going to court, but the conflict resolution process does involve distinct stages designed to lead to a mutually beneficial compromise. This program will provide insight on the best practices for a successful mediation from the vantage point of experienced mediators and in-house counsel that have been through the mediation process and will be moderated by Ruben Castillo, Akerman partner and former Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Topics to be covered include:

  •     The best time for mediation
  •     The value of pre-mediation conferences and calls
  •     The value of information exchange
  •     The value of opening statements
  •     The need to inform the mediator of all relevant information
  •     Realistic party expectations—understanding the mediation ground rules
  •     The importance of a collaborative format to build trust
  •     The importance of candor
  •     What the significant guideposts are toward resolution
  •     Effective post-mediation behavior

One of ACC Chicago’s most popular events, the Clinic in a Box® program allows you to use your skills to do pro bono while earning CLE credit!

In response to the #MeToo movement, Illinois recently passed a wide-ranging bill that applies to all Illinois employers. Illinois’ new Workplace Transparency Act, effective January 1, 2020, significantly restricts the use of non-disclosure and non-disparagement provisions in employment agreements, separation agreements and settlement agreements; limits an employer’s ability to unilaterally require certain terms (e.g. arbitration) as a condition of employment, mandates employers conduct sexual harassment training for all employees; expands the prohibition of harassment and other discrimination under the Illinois Human Rights Act; and creates annual training and disclosure requirements to the Illinois Department of Human Rights.

Join us as a volunteer attorney at this legal clinic for nonprofits. You will receive training and work in teams to review a nonprofit’s EEO and sexual harassment policies, and to provide guidance on how to comply with the new law.

Professional liability coverage is provided for all participating attorneys.
