Description:

When risk is managed poorly, business suffers and people lose jobs.  When it’s managed effectively, saving capital and earnings, people get promoted.  Corporate counsel is in a unique position to quarterback the risk management process through careful selection and deployment of insurance.  This presentation will help corporate counsel understand what kinds of insurance mitigate third party risks, learn how to communicate with brokers and carriers to maximize insurance assets, and explain risk and insurance to senior management and the Board.

Together we are helping under-served students by donating much-needed supplies to local area schools.

Many children can’t afford the most basic school supplies.  Without the proper tools to do the work, children are challenged to achieve academic success.  Many compassionate teachers pay for school supplies from their own pocket so their students have a more productive, efficient learning experience.  The Teachers Aid Program, at the Houston Food Bank, provides the supplies kids need to succeed.

Never Let a Good Crisis Go to Waste. Risks and Opportunities During Financial Uncertainty

Please join Akin for an informative discussion regarding the opportunities and risks of financial distress in these times of increasing uncertainty. In the first quarter of this year, the number of chapter 11 filings ticked up to their highest level since the start of the pandemic, and, with the pressure on corporate balance sheets from interest rate increases and the macroeconomic climate, that trend will likely continue for the rest of the year.

In an interactive panel discussion, Akin partner Sarah Schultz and counsel Rachel Biblo Block and Zach Lanier will provide an overview of the corporate restructuring basics that corporate leaders need to know and key insights into the opportunities afforded by a restructuring-whether that be as a lender to, or potential acquirer of, the troubled company, or as a member of an official creditors' committee. The panelists will also cover key risks that companies and other firms must be aware of when their counterparts go through a bankruptcy filing, and the key tools a debtor has that are unique to a bankruptcy that can implicate the rights of creditors.

This event is currently sold out. Please email susan.harvey@accglobal.com to be put on the waitting list. Max 4 tickets.

July Webinar: AI: Competitor or Your New Best Friend? Presented by von Brisen & Roper

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the hot topic right now. Some proclaim that AI is the biggest development in tech since the dawn of the internet and has the potential to increase GDP and efficiency. Others denounce AI as an existential threat to lawyers, other knowledge workers, and – in some extreme examples – humanity. Whatever the case, AI is here and it is not going anywhere. Join von Briesen attorneys Jeff Mark and Chris Avallone as they discuss the basics of ChatGPT and other AI platforms as well as the potential pitfalls for legal professionals.

Big Changes to Minnesota’s Employment Laws: Hot Topics and Trends to Watch

It was a busy year for the Minnesota legislature! The legislature passed sweeping laws that have a significant impact on Minnesota employers in a variety of ways. If you need guidance for how to navigate these sweeping changes, or if you’re simply hoping to be sure you haven’t missed anything, join us! Littler attorneys Claire Deason and Emily McNee will provide guidance on how employers should prepare for compliance with these new laws as well as trends to watch into 2024.
