THE PFAS AND THE FURIOUS: MINNESOTA’S BURGEONING PFAS REGULATORY ENVIRONMENT (AND ITS POTENTIAL EFFECTS ON YOUR COMPANY)

Minnesota is at the forefront of states that have adopted laws regulating, restricting or prohibiting per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in a wide variety of products and packaging materials. At the same time, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has adopted a “PFAS Blueprint” that, among other things, set in motion requirements and guidance for hundreds of companies to test their air emissions, industrial stormwater and wastewater discharges, or solid and hazardous wastes for the presence of PFAS and to assess, investigate, and potentially, remediate PFAS contamination at certain sites involved in the Remediation program. In this presentation, we will provide an overview of these regulatory efforts, discuss the challenges other states and the businesses within them have faced in undertaking similar efforts, and offer suggestions on how you can help your company prepare for the road ahead.

Join us for a discussion regarding the quickly evolving legal landscape of artificial intelligence.  We will dive into ethical considerations, potential pitfalls, impacts on privilege and confidentiality, and helpful applications of the present available technology.  Further consideration will be given on where artificial intelligence potentially could be developing over the upcoming years.”

Data security is a more urgent concern than ever. Almost all businesses are in possession of confidential personal, financial and proprietary information, so it’s no surprise they’ve become prime hacking targets.  Data security ranks as in-house counsel’s top priorities.  Businesses rely on you for advice on handling confidential data. In this presentation, Melody McAnally of Butler Snow’s data security and privacy team will use real world examples to discuss some of the key data security and related ethics issues facing in-house counsel.

This presentation will provide an overview of the new Texas Business Courts system, with a focus on considerations for in-house counsel. Topics covered will include:

  • A summary of the new Business Courts system (including selection of judges, jurisdiction, filing procedures, and appeals);
  • An overview of the proposed new Rules of Civil Procedure for the Business Courts;
  • Insights from the Texas Multi-District Litigation process; and
  • Open questions and practical considerations for in-house counsel.
