Professor Don Cochran will discuss the prosecution of Bobby Frank Cherry, who was convicted in 2002 for his involvement in the 1963 bombing of Birmingham’s 16th Street Baptist Church that resulted in the death of four black schoolgirls. This is an extraordinary opportunity to hear from Professor Cochran, the former U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee, and a lead prosecutor in the case

Artful Observation is a project spearheaded by the Saint Louis University (SLU) Art History Program to establish curricular and research programs based on evidence-based methods about utilizing the visual arts to help students and professionals develop their awareness of issues related to attentiveness, empathy, diversity, equity, and inclusion. 

Facilitator Dr. Cathleen Fleck, Ph.D., will use Artful Observation techniques to enhance bias and observational awareness and facilitate conversation about diversity, equity, and inclusion. We will use art as conversation tools for members of in a session at the Saint Louis Art Museum.

Emerging Data and Off-Channel Communications Under Regulatory Scrutiny

A broad cross-section of regulatory activity underscores just how valuable and risky data has become in the current business environment. More pointedly, scrutiny over “off-channel communications,” or “emerging data sources,” such as modern communications tools, collaboration platforms, personal devices and chat applications, is intensifying worldwide. U.S. authorities including the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Commodity and Futures Trading Commission and the Department of Justice have released new requirements surrounding the governance of emerging data sources and have implemented severe penalties against financial services institutions that have failed to properly preserve, monitor and manage off-channel communications.
