Each year, more data protection laws are enacted, making it increasingly difficult for organizations to navigate the complicated web of rules as they attempt to leverage their data. This year, eight U.S. states passed new comprehensive privacy laws that will go into effect in the coming years, and Washington and Nevada passed health privacy laws that will go into effect at the end of March 2024. In addition, there have been developments on the federal privacy law front, the FTC has been active on the health data front, several countries have passed or enacted new comprehensive privacy laws, the EU is working on new regulations, and then add GenAI to the mix. During this session, we will discuss:

  • the key data protection laws going into effect after 2024
  • the applicability of these laws to your organization
  • how the laws are similar and key differences in the laws
  • key compliance areas you should consider focusing on in 2024 given recent litigation (such as tracking technology issues, sensitive data, etc.)

SPEAKERS:
Gretchen Ramos, Global Co-Chair of the Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice, Greenberg Traurig

FTI Breakfast Series Part 2: Taking a Holistic Approach to a Cybersecurity Breach: Investigation, Analysis, Management and Lessons Learned

More than 16 billion records, including credit card and other sensitive personal data, have been compromised since 2019 with breach frequency continuing to rise. The impact of a cyber incident can be multi-faceted: legal and regulatory ramifications around the world, financial loss, reputational damage among internal and external stakeholders, and other types of economic or social disadvantage. Given these risks, effective breach response is an imperative to mitigate additional adverse impacts.

In this session, speakers with global and Asian expertise will shed a light on:

• What a strategic approach to incident response and management looks like

• How to determine the extent of a breach to support applicable requirements

• Tailored multi-stakeholder engagement strategy, including scenario planning, timely communications and legal notification

• Best practices for minimizing the effects of a data breach and its subsequent impact

• Internalizing the lessons learned

Speakers: FTI Consulting

  • Eva Kwok, Senior Managing Director & Head of Cybersecurity

  • Sandeep Jadav, Senior Managing Director and Asia Lead, Technology
