Abuse and discrimination claims, climate change, and forever chemicals are only a few examples of how corporate America is under attack from new liabilities. More and more, companies must count on insurance companies for assistance, all while insurance companies are under pressure to deny coverage. This session will examine the insurance trends in 2024 regarding these new liabilities and provide meaningful insights and analyses for any company seeking to recover insurance proceeds or deciding what coverage it should buy.
ACC Houston August Chapter Meeting CLE Ten Things Every In-House Lawyer Should Know About Texas Insurance Law August 12, 2025 | 11:30 am - 1:00 pm | Maggiano's Little Italy
This presentation will cover key issues in Texas insurance law to help in-house counsel maximize insurance coverage, avoid common pitfalls, and manage their company’s exposure. For example, we will discuss the duty of loyalty owed by insurer-appointed defense counsel and how to effectively manage that relationship. We will also address best practices for managing claims under liability and first-party insurance policies, and your company’s rights under the Texas Insurance Code.
We will provide an overview of key coverages and insurance policy terms, common exclusions, and recommended types and amounts of coverage based on the insured’s business model and risk profile. Attendees will learn about common contractual provisions regarding insurance coverage obligations of contracting parties, filing claims with insurers (when and under what circumstances advisable) and disputing coverage denials. We will also share trends in COVID-related coverage litigation.
