Please join us for a special screening of DLA Piper’s latest dramatic film, Something to Report.

The film depicts a fictional drama depicting a corporation dealing with multiple issues: a distributor kickback scheme spanning multiple countries, whistleblower response protocol, compliance and internal audit failures, insufficient investigative resources, and the delicate balance of managing internal investigations, reporting requirements and stakeholder interests.

The screening of Something to Report will be accompanied by an interactive discussion led by DLA Piper partners Dan Garen and Ed Hanover.

Join us for a fascinating discussion with Nate Klemp and learn how to experience a more optimal state of well-being. Nate will explore how just as you train your body for fitness you can train your mind for well being. Given the unique stressors of this particular time including COVID-19 and the upcoming election, we could all use tools to help us survive, and thrive.

In addition to being a best-selling author, Nate’s background includes jazz, philosophy and an MA at Stanford, a PhD in Philosophy at Princeton, and working as an assistant professor at Pepperdine. He co-founded LifeXT, a mindfulness training company that brings optimal well-being to the workplace, which merged with Mindful Magazine to become Mindful, the world-renowned mindfulness media and training company.

Join Mintz as we discuss the new H-1B regulations from the DOL and DHS. The DOL regulations, issued earlier this month, dramatically increase prevailing wage data, which is used to evaluate H-1B, H-1B1, E-3, and PERM cases. When the DHS regulations take effect in early December, they will restrict eligibility for H-1B qualification and create additional burdens for employers that place H-1B workers at another company’s worksite. We will explain the new rules and review practical solutions for employers as well as the potential impact of litigation challenging these rules.

Join us for the first in a two-part Mintz ESG webinar series on emerging environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria used by socially conscious investors to evaluate corporate behavior, and by companies themselves to assess their own performance.

ESG initially referred primarily to the impact of business investments on sustainability and social issues, and it has since evolved to encompass a broad range of recent social events that affect shareholder interests. Current ESG topics of focus include the economic, community, and health impacts of the coronavirus pandemic, sustainability, the increased focus on gender and racial equity in board composition, and the moral imperative of achieving racial justice — not just in the boardroom but throughout corporate America.

Mintz’s multidisciplinary ESG team and BeiGene Ltd. General Counsel Scott Samuels will discuss how boards can and should respond to rapidly changing legal, moral, and social imperatives. The session will also explore how investors’ increased interest in ESG standards intersects with other board concerns, including corporate governance and fiduciary duties, and disclosure rules regarding ESG issues.

This webinar will be the first in our two-part series, with the second webinar addressing statutory developments relating to the racial and gender composition of boards, corporate diversity and inclusion initiatives, and social impact investing in early December.

The COVID-19 pandemic is having an incredible impact in the litigation space. Experienced trial attorneys, Douglas A. Pettit and Matthew C. Smith, who practice in the areas of commercial litigation and professional liability, will lead a discussion on how the California state and federal courts are handling litigation and trials during the COVID-19 pandemic. They will share their insights and provide an overview of this fast-developing litigation landscape; addressing evolving court practices along with critically important issues such as handling depositions, hearings, and mediations remotely. They will also discuss the nature and extent of delays in trials, as well as virtual jury trials and how COVID-19 may affect how jurors decide cases.

Developing and managing an company privacy program is a challenging task in a rapidly changing legal and regulatory environment.  Iris Mitrakos (CIPP/US) and Kevin Patariu (CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPM) provide in-house and outside counsel perspectives on developing a privacy program and managing the phases of compliance for a privacy program.  Practical guidance on complying with the CCPA will also be discussed.

Virtually all commercial agreements (e.g., license agreements, SAAS agreements, distribution agreements, merger agreements, etc.) contain representations and warranties and provisions covering indemnification of the parties.  In this practical discussion, Amit Singh, a business transactions expert, will cover the issues that arise in drafting and negotiating such provisions.

Wage statement litigation has been on the rise in recent years.  We will provide you with the current state of the law on California’s very specific and numerous wage statement requirements for employers and helpful practical tips to avoid claims.  We will also address hot issues in current work-place policies and how to address them.
