Prosecutors Who Led the Investigation into January 6: Lessons for Large-Scale Litigation

Hear from two high ranking former federal prosecutors who managed the prosecution of the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.  This was the largest investigation in Department of Justice history, involving over 1,500 and a team of hundreds of attorneys and investigators.  In this program, two leaders of the DOJ’s investigation -- the former Chief and Deputy Chief of the DOJ Capitol Siege Section -- will distill lessons learned from managing this litigation of an unprecedented scale.  While the attack on the Capitol may seem like a unique event, the challenges the investigation posed—relating to topics such as management, settlement approach, ediscovery, and team organization—have broad applicability to large-scale litigation of various types.

Speakers:

Alexis Loeb, partner at Farella Braun + Martel and former deputy chief of the DOJ Capitol Siege Section

Gregory Rosen, shareholder at Rogers Joseph O'Donnell and chief of the DOJ Capitol Siege Section

Topic:              Practical Considerations and Pitfalls Regarding California’s New Covenant Not to Compete Statute

Presenter:       Dylan W. Wiseman, Shareholder, Buchalter

Description:     California has long prohibited most non-compete agreements, but recent legislative changes and court decisions have significantly expanded the scope and enforcement risks for employers. • Key compliance strategies for employers operating in or hiring from California.

• Practical steps to protect trade secrets and confidential business information without violating the law.

• What multi-state employers need to know about conflicts between California and other jurisdictions.

Whether you are an in-house counsel, HR professional, or business leader, this webinar will equip you with actionable guidance to navigate the new rules while safeguarding your company’s most valuable assets.

Please join us for our final CLE of the year and a reception presented by new chapter sponsor Maschoff Brennan.

Non-practicing entities, sometimes called “patent trolls,” are a growing challenge for companies in many industries. Their business model is built on extracting settlements and licensing fees, often through aggressive litigation tactics. Unfortunately, there is no "one size fits all" strategy for dealing with them, so corporate in-house counsel must develop a coherent understanding of what NPEs are, when to fight, and when to settle. Maschoff Brennan Partner Jason Crotty will share stories from the front lines and lead an informative discussion about this topic.

This free event will take place at Enso Winery--a fun wine bar and urban winery located in the Buckman neighborhood in close-in SE Portland. A variety of hosted beverages (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and food will be available throughout the event.

All in-house counsel in Oregon and SW Washington are invited to attend this event regardless of membership in the ACC.  Space is limited.
