Please join us on the Zoom platform for our ACC-SFBA employment law consultation for 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. This event is presented by Cozen O'Connor and organized in conjunction with the Justice & Diversity Center of the Bar Association of San Francisco (JDC).

FRIDAY, JUNE 7, 2024

The afternoon will consist of:

12:00pm: Lunch Delivery & Introductions
12:15 - 1:45pm: Volunteer Training (CLE #1: 1.5 hours California Credit)
1:45 - 2:00pm: Breakout Room Prep Time for Volunteers
2:00 - 2:15pm: Non-Profit Introductions
2:15 - 4:00pm: Consultations
4:00 - 4:15pm: Break
4:15 - 5:15pm: "Hard to Get" CLE Happy Hour (CLE #2: 1.0 hour California Credit)

The event starts with a virtual CLE training session entitled "Employment Law Legal Audit for Nonprofit Organizations", by Cozen O’Connor, to update ACC members on employment law in California. Next, members will be placed into small teams (with one or two other attorneys) to meet with their assigned nonprofit clients. Teams will have a couple hours to help their clients identify employment law issues and to counsel their clients. Cozen O'Connor employment attorneys will be standing by to assist with challenging questions.

All ACC members are welcome, regardless of your level of experience - you do not have to be an employment attorney to participate, and you are not required to provide pro bono services to your assigned clients after this event. You must be barred in the State of California for insurance purposes.

Examples of the types of non-profits these events have helped in the past include:

  • An organization that empowers young mothers to complete their high school and post-secondary education and nurtures their children’s development
  • An organization that supported low-income families during the pandemic by distributing packages of education essentials
  • An organization that works on behalf of low-income immigrants and refugees through advocacy, education, legal services, and other community-based services

We will close the day with the "Hard to Get" MCLE Happy Hour.  Cozen O'Connor will host a wine & cheese reception at your desk and offer a NEW "Hard to Get" MCLE, Civility in the Legal Profession.

Huntington Library - Wikipedia

The Huntington Library, Art Museum and Botanical Gardens, known as The Huntington,[a] is a collections-based educational and research institution established by Henry E. Huntington (1850–1927) and Arabella Huntington (c.1851–1924) in San Marino, CaliforniaUnited States. In addition to the library, the institution houses an extensive art collection with a focus on eighteenth- and nineteenth-century European art and seventeenth- to mid-twentieth century American art. The property also has approximately 120 acres (49 ha) of specialized botanical landscaped gardens, including the "Japanese Garden", the "Desert Garden", and the "Chinese Garden" (Liu Fang Yuan).

Join us for a refreshing Spring walk at Balboa Lake Park.  Enter the park through the Balboa Blvd. entrance and park in the designated parking slots.  Then head over to the Swan Boat Rental Area for our group meet-up. We will make our way around the lake on the footpath and enjoy fresh air, exercise, and camaraderie while counting steps on our movement trackers.  Friends and families welcome!  As a bonus, Balboa Lake Park is dog-friendly so feel free to bring a furry friend.  Water and light snacks will be provided.  The park has open green spaces, picnic tables, pedal boat and bike rentals, and a children’s play area, so feel free to explore afterwards.

Please join us for this fun, family-friendly event organized by the ACC SoCal Well-Being Committee. Family and friends are welcome as we gather for a walk around the beautiful lake, and then enjoy a light snack and conversation.

All are welcome, whether or not you have a doggie or other animal friend to bring or would just like to join in the fun. This CLE program will use a case study to describe how in-house counsel can effectively respond to and manage corporate turmoil – and how best to avoid these scenarios. Examined through three distinct lenses – (i) immediate response and mitigation, (ii) internal investigations and litigation strategy, and (iii) government/regulatory scrutiny – this presentation will offer practical tips for addressing the complex and potentially competing needs of internal and external stakeholders, employees, the government, and the public in the midst of a corporate crisis.

Before the cacao ceremony and sound bath get underway, Greenberg Glusker partner, Benny Roshan, will present "Aging Gracefully: Spotting Competency Issues & Triaging Prudent Solutions" for 0.75 hours of MCLE credit in the Prevention and Detection Competence subfield category.

This CLE program will explore competence issues in the context of the aging attorney population (among others). While mental and physical issues impacting the elderly population are very common, few CLE programs discuss them in the context of an aging attorney's ability to perform legal services with requisite competence. While it may be easy to spot an attorney who has completely lost physical capability and mental competence, it is challenging to spot those in the "gray zone" who have started their descent into concerning territory, often exhibiting imperceptible signs of incompetence.

NOTE: Shoes to be removed upon entry.

w

  • Free street parking after 6 PM.

This program will provide:

  • An overview of the physical and mental manifestation of cognitive impairments in elderly attorneys who still practice law (whether in private practice or in-house) and the inherent challenges and risks incidental to those impairments.
  • Practical, real-life examples of not only what total mental impairment looks like but examples of (and helpful guidance on) what someone on the precipice of being impaired looks like.
  • Best practices for financial management for impacted individuals.
