Globally the fashion and furniture industries are expected to generate over $770 billion and $765 billion, respectively, in 2024. These two giant industries overlap in many ways, including design, innovation, copying, and functionality. And the overlaps prevalent in both industries implicate the same intellectual property laws, namely, design patent, copyright, and trademark or trade dress. The panelists will discuss recent intellectual property trends relating to fashion and furniture designs. The panelists are experts in their respective fields: Scott Shaw, an intellectual property litigator with emphasis in the fashion and furniture industries; Maryn Miller, an in-house fashion law attorney; Shannon King, an in-house furniture and home goods attorney; and, Chris Buccafusco, a Duke intellectual property law professor. The panel moderator is Joni Gaudes, EVP, General Counsel, Hybrid Apparel.

There has been much hype around the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to transform life and work. Many industries are looking to implement the paradigm shift that this technology offers. While companies are eager to develop and implement AI solutions, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations can help companies avoid costly and disruptive enforcement and legal actions.

In this webinar we will cover:

  • Antitrust Risks Associated with Using AI
  • Regulatory and Legal Risks Associated with AI Washing
  • AI and Greenwashing:  Can it Prevent it or Make it Worse?

11:30 AM - 12:00 PM Check-In & Lunch | 12:00 - 1:00 PM CLE Presentation

As attorneys, we move from contentious negotiation, to aggressiive litigation, to hostile confrontation, and we often navigate passive-aggressive or manipulative behavior from colleagues.

We will explore the impact that the stress of incivility has on individual attorneys and on the legal profession generally.  We will discuss how empathy, integrity, and consensus-building can inform the role of an in-house counsel.  Learn how a high EQ (emotional intelligence) can improve outcomes and consider how you can incorporate the best practices of super-communicators into your daily interactions with opposing attorneys and fellow team-members.

Join us for insights from General Counsel on how achieving “civility in the legal profession” is not just good ethics but good business.

Registration:  4:45 – 5:00 pm | Program: 5:00 - 6:00 pm | Networking Social: 6:00 - 7:00 pm

DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) is about creating a workplace where everyone feels valued, respected, and has an equal opportunity to succeed. In today's increasingly global and interconnected world, DEI is essential for building bridges and understanding between different cultures. When organizations commit to DEI, they signal that they are open to new ideas and perspectives, sending a powerful message to employees, customers, and business partners that they are valued members of the community.  But how exactly do you go about advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace?

In this session we will:

  • Explore the case for inclusion and why it’s critical to achieving diversity at all levels of an organization
  • Discuss challenges to inclusion in the workplace, including systemic racism, unconscious bias, and covering
  • Provide strategies for advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Registration/Networking:  5:00 – 5:30 pm | Program: 5:30 - 6:30 pm | Networking/Cocktails: 6:30 - 7:00 pm

Blank Rome Data Privacy and Labor & Employment attorneys will share their insights on the fast-moving developments of AI in the workplace, how it is already being used, burgeoning opportunities on the near horizon, and how to avoid the missteps that could trip up your company in navigating these opportunities.

The panel will educate attendees about:

  • The potential for algorithmic discrimination and why AI is drawing regulatory scrutiny in employment decision-making
  • Reference the evolving laws and regulations that regulate the use of AI in employment and beyond
  • Privacy considerations relating to the use of AI tools, including the importance of disclosures, and assessment of data collection, sharing and retention practice
  • Best practices for deployment of AI tools within an organization

Employee terminations are all difficult—but some are more difficult than others. In this webinar, Barran Liebman partner Chris Morgan will provide best practices for managing high-risk terminations, as well as safeguards to ensure even the most complex terminations are handled with professionalism and in a manner that limits potential legal exposure.

All corporate counsel may attend this event regardless of membership in the ACC.  This CLE is also open to HR stakeholders in your company too--please share this online event with you colleagues!

What did the grape say when the elephant stood on it? Nothing, it just let out a little natural wine.

Join the Orange County Asian American Bar Association (OCAABA) In-House Committee in collaboration with the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) and the Orange County Bar Association (OCBA) for an evening of exquisite natural wines provided by Semi Tropic Wine and graciously hosted by Buchalter.

What is Natural Wine? Is it the same as Organic Wine?
All natural wines are organic, but not all organic wines would be considered natural. Natural wines are made with sustainably farmed grapes, wild yeasts, and without any additives, including acid, sulfites, or megapurple, which winemakers might otherwise use for color. In its purest form, it is wine made from unadulterated fermented grape juice and nothing else.

Discover unique flavors and enjoy an evening of networking with fellow professionals.

Spaces are limited, so please RSVP by emailing your name, company, and organization (i.e. OCAABA, ACC, OCBA) to lp.constantcontactpages.com/ev/reg/rk4nvud

ML Women invites ACC SFBA members to team up with The Access Project (TAP) in offering a clean slate clinic to formerly incarcerated California community college students.

This clinic will help clients clear criminal convictions for minor infractions when there is no evidence of violence or repeated criminal behavior—eliminating barriers to employment, occupational licensing, and to other basic necessities, such as housing.

Our volunteers will be reviewing records of arrests and prosecutions in teams to determine what remedies may be available. Please note that while the clinic is in person for volunteers, the clients will not be present.

No prior experience is required, as training and supervision are provided. Lunch will be served during the training portion and a reception will follow immediately after at the firm.

Please email Andrea J. Fitanides, Pro Bono Counsel, Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP to volunteer (andrea.fitanides at morganlewis.com).
