We all know that pro bono is important and important to our communities. We also realize that at times pro bono can be emotionally challenging. Although lawyers tend to be a stoic bunch, it is often recommended that pro bono programs include regular opportunities for volunteers to talk about their cases, experiences, and, of course, struggles as a way to reduce burnout, compassion fatigue and even secondary trauma. To that end, the Pro Bono Committee will host a quarterly virtual meeting space for anyone and everyone to join to listen and share stories, experience, advice and feedback.

Special Purpose Acquisition Companies (SPACs) have been around for many years, but 2020 saw a resurgence in their popularity given the advantageous costs and efficiencies in comparison to traditional initial public offerings. The interest has only increased in 2021.

SPACs are drawing interest from a wide variety of investors, as well as securities plaintiffs who allege that there are often misaligned incentives between the sponsors who put up a SPAC’s initial capital and other investors. In addition, the SEC is signaling they plan to scrutinize SPACs, considering rules requiring better disclosure of the assumptions behind projections, conflicts of interest and shareholder dilution.

Our panel will discuss the specific issues and concerns of SPAC-related investments. They will also discuss the potential securities litigation that can arise at each stage of the SPAC life cycle – from the IPO to the de-SPAC transaction – as well as from issues arising from the post-transaction operating company.

The exponential uptick in malicious activity by both nation-state bad actors and criminal enterprises threatening organizations systems and networks since the start of COVID-19 in early 2020 have proven that all organizations are vulnerable to data breaches and ransomware attacks. This session will explore multiple, practical methods your team can employ related to protecting critical data and sensitive personal information.

  • Cyber issues when working-from-home

  • Cyber incident preparation and recovery

  • Preventative operational technology measures

  • NIST Guidelines to follow

Join this panel of legal and technical experts to learn about the key requirements of California’s Consumer Privacy Act and the more recent Privacy Rights Act. If your organization does business in the state, you’ll benefit from this panel discussion on the data sources to which these Acts apply, how to ready your organization or clients for compliance, and how the landscape is soon to change. We’ll also discuss technical measures that can be taken to protect and remediate data that are subject to the Acts.

Moderated by John Unice, bit-x-bit’s CEO, the discussion will be led by attorneys (and privacy experts) Jeff Brown and Adam Zihar from Highmark and Brett Creasy, bit-x-bit’s President and Director of Digital Forensics.

‘A Price Worth Paying?’ is a drama film focusing on the board of directors, senior executive team, and external advisors of a fictitious company, Maartel International, and looking at how well each identifies, and reacts to, risks emerging within the business.

The film looks at difficult issues such as executive compensation, the risks involved in an acquisition in an emerging market, the adequacy of the company’s response to a serious whistle blower allegation and the role played, and advice given, by Maartel International’s General Counsel. It reinforces the importance of setting the right “tone from the top”,  ensuring that adequate compliance policies are in place and the crucial role.

The next-generation of wireless technologies – known as 5G – is here.  Not only is it expected to offer network speeds that are up to 100 times faster than 4G LTE and reduce latency to nearly zero, it will allow networks to handle 100 times the number of connected devices, revolutionizing business and consumer connectivity and enabling the “Internet of Things.”

In this program, we will review the regulatory landscape impacting 5G services and the recent actions taken by the Federal Communications Commission (“FCC”) to ensure the U.S. maintains leadership in commercial 5G deployments.  We will also hear from experts in the wireless and cable industries about what the private sector has been doing and how your companies can play a role in the new 5G world.

Presented by Kara Graves, Assistant Vice President, Regulatory Affairs at CTIA, Danielle Pineres, Vice President & Associate General Counsel at NCTA- The Internet and Television Association and Jessica Greffenius, Associate Chief, Mobility Division, Wireless Telecommunications Bureau at Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

Moderated by Angela Kung, Member at Mintz.
