About the Program
FordHarrison invites ACC Tampa Bay members to join partner Shane Munoz and counsel Emily Chase-Sosnoff for a seminar that will provide both an overview of recent developments and emerging trends in labor & employment law, as well as a primer on improving the prospects for the best possible outcome
from mediations. Details on what will be covered are below. We hope you can join us!

2022 Labor & Employment Law Update
Emily and Shane will brief participants on current COVID-related workplace requirements, new state laws going into effect in 2022, and emerging legal trends in employment law nationwide. The presentation will cover the latest updates on COVID vaccine mandates, testing, and quarantine, as well as new state-specific laws that multi-state employers need to know about.

Mediation Bootcamp
Mediation is required before trial in all federal civil cases in the Middle District of Florida, and a high percentage of cases settle at mediation, which makes mediation a critical step in the litigation process. In this discussion, Shane, who is a seasoned mediator, will help you to learn how to conduct successful mediations, from planning and preparation to understanding the process and using it to your advantage. The session will cover:

  • Getting management buy-in;
  • Identifying interests and goals;
  • Partnering with outside counsel;
  • Selecting and educating the mediator;
  • Determining who should attend;
  • The uninvited guest;
  • The mediation process;
  • The opening caucus;
  • Selective disclosures;
  • Offers and demands;
  • Closing the door; and
  • Confidentiality.

Attendance is complimentary and limited to in-house counsel. Please RSVP with Audrey Bailey, Executive Director of ACC Tampa Bay, at TampaBay@accglobal.com by Tuesday, February15.

Please join us for our first in-person event of 2022.  Shutts & Bowen will be hosting a CLE entitled: “Triaging an Intellectual Property Infringement Claim."  They will be following the CLE with an Axe Throwing Social.

Most businesses still speak in the language of government currencies—U.S. Dollars, Euros, and the like.  But that’s changing.  Join our panel as we investigate how corporations are starting to use so-called “alternative assets,” from cryptocurrencies, blockchain technology, etherium offerings, NFTs, and beyond.  How are businesses leveraging alternative assets as investments?  As forms of payment?  As new revenue streams?  As sources of working capital?  Of course, the “how” is just the beginning, as the legal implications of these business practices are gradually coming into focus.  Alternative assets pose different privacy and valuation considerations that are changing business practices and what consumers expect.  Complicating matters further, the laws and regulations constraining the use of alternative assets vary across the global marketplace.  Fox Rothschild’s Deana Labriola will moderate a dynamic panel of experienced business leaders and in-house lawyers who will share their insights of this brave new world of “The Future of Money.”

Organizations of all sizes have started to recognize an interconnected yet disparate world of Data Privacy. Once an issue for global organizations, corporations and law firms now have to navigate a patchwork of State level Data Privacy provisions. Beyond the State level, several relevant Federal Statutes also have Data Privacy provisions that may reach deeply into many entities. This program is designed as a survey of the enacted State level Data Privacy laws and the identification of states about to enact new legislation. We will also provide an overview of some of the more prominent requirements in the EU and what global companies need to consider to be GDPR compliant. Finally, we will finish the presentation with a “Top 5” discussion on areas where North Carolina organizations should focus their attention to stay ahead of their Data Privacy responsibilities.
