"The Burned Out Lawyer – An Occupational Hazard?"

Well, the pandemic has come and, to some extent, gone. But if there is one word we continue to hear more than any other term as we navigate through the “new normal” world, it is “burnout.”

But what is burnout? What does it look like and feel like? More importantly, what can we do to prevent the normal stress and “lawyer anxiety” so common in our profession from developing into the physically and emotionally draining state known as Burnout? Has it really become an occupational hazard?

Recent studies have shown that there has been a dramatic increase in impairment due to alcoholism, addiction and mental health disorders among members of the legal profession. The statistics are compelling and clearly indicate that 1 out of 3 attorneys will likely have a need for substance use or mental health services at some point in their careers.

 Mr. Quinn will discuss:

  • The early warning signs of impairment, with special emphasis on stress and burnout.
  • Symptoms of stress and burnout that are particularly prevalent among members of the legal profession and how our professional culture may be contributing to the problems we face.
  • Discussion will include the basic stress reactions, both physical and psychological; the difference between healthy stress and distress;
  • Guidelines for a “master plan”, including realistic prevention strategies that work.
  • Why lawyers and judges are at especially high risk to develop mental health and substance use disorders.
  • The free services that Lawyers Assistance Programs provide to lawyers, judges, their family members and law students.
  • The barriers that prevent lawyers and judges from seeking the help they need.

Speaker:  Brian S. Quinn, Esquire  - Education and Outreach Coordinator, Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers of PA, Inc.

In this session, we will explore the world of influencer marketing, examining what works, what to avoid, and how brands can authentically connect with audiences through trusted voices. We'll begin with a breakdown of influencer marketing fundamentals, followed by a discussion of best practices and common pitfalls. Real-world case studies and cautionary tales—the "traps"—will illustrate the importance of clear strategy, compliance, and alignment between influencer and brand. Whether you're new to the space or looking to refine your approach, this program offers practical insights to help you build smarter, more effective influencer campaigns.

Leading the conversation will be Shreya Desai of Kilpatrick, who will be joined by Lauren Tilashalski—an Atlanta-based attorney and tastemaker—and Laurisa Curran, in-house counsel at the American Cancer Society. Together, they will provide practical, firsthand insights on navigating the influencer marketing landscape and building authentic, compliant partnerships.
