On Wednesday, August 24, the Greater Cleveland Food Bank invites ACC NEO members and Sutter O'Connell attorneys to assist with projects in the Repack area. The shift will run from 5:00pm - 8:00pm, and we will be recruiting 10-15 volunteers in order to allow for appropriate social distancing during the project.

Throughout Northeast Ohio, one in six people is food insecure – meaning they may not know where their next meal will come from. The Greater Cleveland Food Bank seeks to bridge the meal gap, connecting individuals with the nutritious meals they need to succeed.

The Greater Cleveland Food Bank is the largest hunger relief organization in Northeast Ohio having provided more than 57 million meals in 2018 to hungry people in Cuyahoga, Ashtabula, Geauga, Lake, Ashland and Richland counties.

The program will cover the following:

Regardless of size, all organizations with operations subject to regulation should develop a formal compliance program appropriate for its size and operation. According to recent remarks by Assistant Attorney General Kenneth Polite at a recent program on Corporate Compliance and Enforcement, “an effective corporate compliance program needs to be much more than a company’s policies, procedures, and internal controls.” With an increasingly tough enforcement environment, and greater demands for transparency and accountability, an effective compliance program is no longer just “nice-to-have.” It’s essential.

Regardless of your experience with compliance, the Miles & Stockbridge team will share the insights that will help you improve your program, increase employee awareness and decrease legal risk. They will share critical insights on best practices and real-life experience with compliance in today’s corporate environment, including an interactive session to test your company’s compliance readiness for cybersecurity.

The agenda is being finalized for the coming year and will be updated when available.

Nick Welle, Jennifer Belveal, and Whitney Swart of Foley and Lardner LLP will review the key issues facing companies in a Post-Dobbs world. Among the questions to be explored are: Can companies fund out of state travel for abortion care for their employees? What are the risks of criminal penalties for companies who do so?  The webinar will provide in-house counsel the information they need to minimize corporate risks when it comes to abortion-related services.

OVERVIEW

Why is it important to understand the anatomy of a patent? How do patents work and what can be done with them? At its most basic, a patent is a form of intellectual property (IP) protection that gives its owner the right to exclude others from making, using, or selling the invention covered by it. Patents are crucial to encouraging innovation because of their societal role as they allow creators to monetize their work. If you are curious about patents, or know someone who is, now is the opportunity to learn the basics of patents and get answers to all your burning questions about patent law by attending “Patents 101.”

During the presentation our hosts will cover:

  • Background

  • Patent FAQs

  • Types of U.S. Patent Applications

  • Requirements for Patentability in U.S.

  • Prosecution in the U.S.

Surprisingly, many high achieving attorneys suffer from ADHD and other executive functioning challenges which make it difficult to plan, prioritize, organize, and focus. The pandemic created an increased reliance on email and changed our work routines making lawyers’ day-to-day tasks even more complex. ACC Northeast Chapter & Corporate Pro Bono have teamed up once more, to offer our members a bi-monthly forum to discuss and share ideas, information and questions concerning the development and implementation of in-house Pro Bono programs. While this forum is open to all ACC Northeast members, we envision it as an informal, small group gathering to help support and promote in-house Pro Bono activities and foster open discussion and dialogue.

These 30-minute sessions will provide an opportunity for members to have a free flowing conversation on all things Pro Bono. Members of ACC Northeast Pro Bono & Civic Engagement Committee, along with leaders of Corporate Pro Bono, will be on hand to facilitate the discussion and share best practices and resources.

We hope you will join us for these sessions, bring your questions, and engage with us and other ACC Northeast as we connect with each other and learn from each other's experiences. The first two dates are planned for September 20, 2022 and November 15, 2022.  Sessions will start at 4:30 p.m.

Please email northeast-administrator@acc.com to register.
