Have the last few years made your HR/legal department feel uneasy? Is there preventive care you could be doing in anticipation of challenges to your labor and employment law health in 2023? Employers have been hit with a host of legal and economic ailments over the past two years. From debilitating labor shortages and employees’ acute wage sensitivity, to nagging employee demands and constant legislative changes, it may feel like your labor and employment health will never recover. However, like all health concerns, proactive preventive measures can be the best medicine in your workplace first aid kit. Join FordHarrison partners Tammie Rattray and Chris Johnson for an in-depth look at recent developments and emerging concerns in employment law and traditional labor. Please join Suzanne King and Katy Rand of Pierce Atwood for an interactive presentation regarding the recognition and avoidance of harassment and discrimination in the legal industry, specifically tailored to role of in-house counsel.

While attendees will receive an important reminder of the definition of sexual harassment, the presentation will cover harassment and discrimination more broadly. Using hypothetical fact patterns, Suzanne and Katy will lead a discussion about discrimination / harassment in the legal industry on the basis of various protected characteristics--including gender identity, gender expression, race, and mental health-and occurring in a variety of contexts.

One of the most important things an employer can do to eliminate harassment and discrimination in the workplace is to respond appropriately and effectively when placed on notice of the same. This program will tackle how in-house counsel should respond to a report of harassment or discrimination, including how to conduct an effective investigation and when to impose disciplinary action.

Attendees will leave the session with information about how discrimination / harassment other than sexual harassment can manifest, with a greater understanding of their own right to be free from discrimination or harassment, as well as, practical information about how to respond to and address reports of harassment with the goal of promoting a professional and respectful work environment for all employees.

There will be a networking reception immediately following the program, and we look forward to seeing you there!

The interagency Procurement Collusion Strike Force (PCSF) is targeting collusion amongst federal and state government contractors, with the potential for jail time and large fines, as well as debarment for both individuals and companies involved.

Led by the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice, the PCSF has already obtained multiple guilty pleas and keeps expanding its team of partner agencies, anticipating multiple investigations for years to come.  The Antitrust Division alone brought 25 criminal cases against 29 individual and 14 corporate defendants last year, and has 146 open grand jury investigations — the most in 30 years.

This program will help you:
