Concerned about class action risk?  You’re not alone.  BTI Consulting Group’s Practice Outlook 2020 Report – based on interviews of over 350 in-house counsel in 15 industries – identifies class actions and other bet-the-company litigation as among the top practices poised for growth in 2020.

This one-hour session will discuss practical tips for reducing your company’s class action exposure. We’ll give particular attention to the intersection of privacy and cybersecurity law – the projected top growth practice for 2020 – and class action risk.  Whether you’re interested in class actions under the Illinois Biometric Privacy Act, or other areas of high exposure, this session is for you!  We’ll also explore open questions in class action law and political uncertainties that may materially impact your company’s class action risk, and discuss strategies for effectively partnering with outside counsel.

The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) is a first of its kind in the US legal environment.  Even after legislative attempts at clarifications and amendments, many open issues remain, such as:

•    How broad should we read the exemption/delay for B2B data?
•    Do I really need to post a "Do Not Sell My Personal Information" link?
•    How do I handle vendor contracting with so little time left before the operative date?
•    Are intra-group disclosures of personal information “sales” under the CCPA?

This Roundtable, led by Baker McKenzie, will bring together seasoned privacy attorneys and compliance personnel to discuss solving these issues on a practical, risk basis.

As part of that process, employers must continually review and revise leave policies and practices as laws change and evolve.
