Join Baker McKenzie and the Association of Corporate Counsel Chicago Chapter for a CLE webinar focused on key privacy and employment risks for companies as they reopen workplaces.

With the advent of the COVID-19, many organizations around the world quickly underwent a seismic shift towards telework or remote working for some or all employees. Months later, ways of working continue to be altered, as employers reopen and face a "new normal," which may include performing antibody testing, taking temperatures, deploying contact tracing, implementing extended work-from-home arrangements and many other measures that are mostly novel for businesses to undertake.

These new measures raise many legal questions and decisions for businesses to navigate. In this session, Baker McKenzie employment and data privacy lawyers team up to review the risks to be aware of, and practical steps to mitigate them.

You're invited to attend our upcoming Happy Hour Event on Thursday, March 5, 2020, from 4-7pm, at Anton's Taproom and Restaurant in the Crossroads Arts District! We hope you will make plans to join us to enjoy over thirty varieties of beer, cocktails, and appetizers!  Anton's is located at 1610 Main Street, Kansas City, MO, 64108, and the event will be held in the Main Street Gallery.

After a tremendously successful year in 2019, ACC Chicago is once again running its corporate legal diversity pipeline program, an exciting initiative designed to help prime the pipeline to the legal profession for young people from underserved high schools in Chicago and the Northwest suburbs.

This program – developed by ACC in collaboration with the Street Law organization (www.streetlaw.org) - creates partnerships between lawyers and nearby high school law classes serving youth from diverse backgrounds.  The idea behind the program is to encourage high school students to continue their educations and to consider careers in the law.

The ACC Chicago Chapter Street Law Program has both a Chicago and a Northwest Suburbs component, and volunteers can select which component (city or suburbs) is most geographically convenient for them.   ACC Chicago has forged relationships with both Chicago Public Schools and the U-46 District; together, we have identified a number of classes that would be grateful for opportunities to partner with in-house counsel through the current semester.

Over the next few months, ACC Chicago volunteers will visit each of the participating classes, and ACC Chicago will bring all of the students to a one-day conference (one for each geographic component) near the end of the spring semester.

The program kicks off with training sessions on the dates below, during which we will meet the teachers, learn how to access proven lesson plans for the classroom visits, and begin to plan for the student conference.

February 21 – Chicago Volunteers
Times: 3:00 – 4:00 pm Online
Please RSVP: ACCLoopStreetLaw@gmail.com For the Zoom invitation.

The program was extremely successful last year with more than 80 in-house attorney volunteers reaching out to well over 200 promising young students.  We received tremendously positive feedback from the students and teachers, with requests for us to add students to the program this year if possible.

Volunteers find it to be a fun and gratifying way to give back to the community and, at the same time, form meaningful relationships with their in-house colleagues.  The time commitment involved is fairly flexible, probably averaging 10-15 hours over the course of three to four months – a small commitment to perhaps change the life of a deserving student.

ACC Houston March Chapter Meeting CLE: Planning Ahead for Disaster Response

When workplace disasters strike (such as explosions, chemical releases, and catastrophic injuries), a host of legal issues are immediately implicated and require pre-planning for how to respond to the first wave of government investigations by OSHA/EPA or others, while also anticipating the second wave of litigation that may follow.

We are encouraging all of our members to invite fellow in-house counsel to attend and join us for our Chapter Meeting in March. For this month only, subject to availability, all non-member in-house counsel guest may attend with a complimentary ticket. All members that bring a guest will be entered into our door prize raffle and will receive an additional $5 off their next Chapter Meeting registration with a discount code!  There will be SWAG and incentives for the invited in-house counsel guests to become members of ACC.  We look forward to seeing you at the Chapter Meeting in March!
