Come escape the heat at our next Summer Sippin’ event- hosted by our chapter's Social Chair, Kathy Yates- on August 4 at Wurzbach Ice House. Wurzbach Ice House is an urban Texas ice house with a full bar, happy hour, daily specials, food & more than 150 really cold beers served by the “coolest” of bartenders.

Join the fun with another trivia contest aptly named “So you think you are a foodie”. Hope to see you there!

No registration fee- this is a "Dutch Treat" event. Spouses welcome!  In-house counsel and their guests only, please!

The pressure on in-house lawyers to live within the confines of a budget is growing.  This is particularly true when it comes to spending on outside counsel. And, planning for the 2023 budget is just around the corner! Join us for a lively and entertaining discussion with 5-time author and noted legal blogger Sterling Miller who will discuss tried and true methods to best manage (and even reduce) outside counsel spend.

What you’ll learn:
•    The importance of forecasting legal spend (and how to do it);
•    Alternatives to the billable hour;
•    The value of alternative legal service providers and boutique law firms;
•    Why setting expectations with outside counsel matters
•    And much, much more!

The speakers will discuss the employment law implications of the Supreme Court of the United States’ recent decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. They will also outline strategies regarding employee benefits issues, corporate messaging, discrimination/accommodation issues, DE&I considerations, and more.

     The Supreme Court’s Dobbs v. Jackson changed many aspects of the legal landscape, but for employers it created new compliance challenges and opportunities for their employee benefit plans.

     This presentation will cover many of the questions in-house counsel and their organizations will be facing in this area, including:

  • Travel benefits,
  • ERISA pre-emption,
  • Multi-state employer issues,
  • Mental health parity laws, and more.

     We look forward to seeing you online on July 19th!

Moving forward in a post-pandemic world, a remote work policy will not only be critical to attracting and retaining talent, but also a pressure point for litigation and personnel disputes. Employers must examine whether and to what extent employees will be permitted to work remotely and design a work from home policy that meets those needs. The panel will discuss best practices for managing a remote or hybrid workforce and avoiding legal liability in such environments.
