Using IP to Protect AI Innovations
 
The field of artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly advancing and impacting a wide array of different industries, from healthcare to manufacturing. Understanding Modern Libraries and the Role Lawyers Can Play in Supporting Their Underserved Patrons

Saul Ewing looks forward to hosting an event for members of the Association of Corporate Counsel Minnesota. Join us to learn about the evolving nature of libraries for underserved communities, including the utilization of pro bono legal organizations as a resource for patrons.

We will begin the event by accepting donations for programs such as the Minneapolis homeless-to-housing program embedded in the Minneapolis Central Library, as highlighted in recent media articles including Not Your Childhood Library in The New Yorker. Afterward, we will hear presentations by library staff about the way they serve the community and when they refer patrons to lawyers. We will conclude our program with a discussion of opportunities for ACC MN members to serve as pro bono counsel for community service legal organizations, including Volunteer Lawyers Network.

Donations

We are taking this opportunity to accept donations for the programs of our participants from the Minneapolis Central Library. These will be “prep kits for people pursuing housing and employment.” We welcome attendees to bring any of the following items, which will be distributed to library patrons experience homelessness and searching for employment:

Members of the Jenner & Block team who led the high-profile 2021 Chicago Blackhawks investigation will discuss their experience from the investigation. Jenner’s report, which the team made public, allows Jenner to discuss more of an internal investigation than usual (although obviously nothing privileged or confidential).  

The investigation followed allegations that in 2010 a Chicago Blackhawks player was sexually assaulted by an assistant coach. As detailed in the report, over the course of four months the Jenner & Block team investigated the conduct of the former coach as well as the Blackhawks internal response after learning, during the 2010 Stanley Cup playoff run, of allegations raised by the former player. The investigation involved interviews with 139 people, including current and former players. The investigation and report were widely covered by myriad news outlets internationally with widespread praise for the report’s independence, objectivity, and thorough fact-finding. The presentation will sensitize the audience to key challenges and potential solutions for high-profile investigations/litigation.
