The Piddington Society is back with PidKids. This is their kid-friendly CPD series, where children are encouraged to attend and morning tea is served.

This session will cover issues relating to returning to work: pregnancy and parenting discrimination, questions from colleagues and bosses, managing workflow, going to interviews and successfully working part-time and flexibly.

Chaired by Felicity McLeish (Wright Prospecting and ACC Australia WA Committee), you will hear from Ly Cejka (St John WA), Kathryn Maric (Panetta McGrath) and Maryann McKenna (McKenna & Associates) who will share their experiences and insight into the above, as practitioners, employment law experts and from the recruiter perspective.

Attendees will be able to claim 0.5 CPD points in CA1 (Practice Management) and 0.5 CPD points in CA3 (Ethics and Professional Responsibility).

This two-part Masterclass in Curtin Law School’s Energy Governance series unravels the laws that regulate mining and petroleum titles in Western Australia, and provides a roadmap for dealing with some common legal disputes.

It’s ideal for in house lawyers, commercial analysts and professionals within the resources and oil and gas sectors who are exposed to title transfers.

The first session focuses on the Mining Act 1978 (WA), Mining Regulations 1981 (WA), and the operations of the Warden’s Court. You’ll learn how parties register and transfer mining titles, and see how native title interests are engaged.

In the second session, you’ll explore the application of the Offshore Greenhouse and Gas Storage Act 2006 (Cth) (OPGGSA), Offshore Petroleum (Royalty) Act 2006 (Cth), and Offshore Greenhouse and Gas Storage Act (Regulatory Levies) Act 2003 (Cth), and operation of the National Offshore Petroleum Titles Administrator (NOPTA).

Corporate Australia has experienced a period of unprecedented uncertainty and change. This session, presented by Gilbert + Tobin’s Disputes + Investigations team, will discuss lessons for corporate counsel arising from:

•    recent high profile corporate failures;

•    public inquiries into gaming and aged care;

•    the community reaction to Juukan Gorge; and

•    changing expectations in relation to workplace culture.

Networking and breakfast: 7:30am - 8:00am

Presentation: 8:00am - 9:00am

We’ve all seen children invading interviews, Canadian PM’s forgetting to turn their video feed to parliament off while changing, and the rise of amusing, funky or blurry backgrounds – but what has COVID-19, WFH and other adaptations meant to lawyers from an ethical point of view?

Join Gilbert + Tobin’s Disputes + Investigations team for a live webinar which will address ethical issues arising from the use of remote technologies, contact tracing and other matters that have arisen in the response to the pandemic.

Everyone knows that scrutiny on company leaders has intensified incredibly over the past 18 months and a focus on governance, culture and accountability frameworks has never been more critical.

This landscape means that directors and senior executives are being challenged to examine behaviours and rethink the way they approach decision-making. This seminar, presented by Gilbert + Tobin’s Corporate Advisory and Disputes + Investigations teams, will explore;

•    competing theories on the role of Boards in the current climate;
•    change which has been prompted by both the Financial Services Royal Commission and the COVID-19 pandemic;
•    recent high-profile examples where non-financial risks including community expectations have not been adequately managed, resulting in poor outcomes for the company and its senior executives;
•    engaging with active regulators;
•    class actions risk; and
•    providing legal (and strategic) advice to Boards in the context of this background.

Lunch and networking: 12:30-1pm

Presentation: 1-2pm

Reconnect, Reimagine and Realign

IMPORTANT UPDATE: DATE CHANGE

ACC Australia, in consultation with the ACC Australia WA Committee and other key stakeholders, has made the difficult decision to defer the WA In-House Counsel Day to Wednesday June 9.
We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this decision may cause.

For those that had already registered for the event and haven't received an email from the events team please contact ausevents@accglobal.com

If 2020 was known as the year where there was no business as usual, where legal teams were forced to rethink and retool, then let’s decide now that 2021 will be known as the year to reconnect, reimagine and realign

Your 2021 In-House Counsel Day program centres around topics and a networking space that provide opportunities to:

• reconnect with your in-house colleagues and industry peers
• reimagine legal practices in the new normal and,
• realign with your company and personal goals.

In 2021, reposition yourself as an in-house lawyer of influence by learning more about crisis and stakeholder management, legal operations, how to add value to commercial conversations and much, much more.

The 2021 In-House Counsel Day promises to have something for everyone. Plenary sessions with industry experts, smaller break-out sessions catering to specialist interest groups such as Chief Legal Officers, New to In-house and those who are Sole Legal Officers.  You will hear from in-house peers who will share their career experiences. You will be offered practical content to take back to your workplace and put into action. Remember, the conference program is developed by in-house lawyers for in-house lawyers.

The WA chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) Australia has a proud history of providing quality conference days for the in-house legal profession, and our 2021 conference will be no different.

For more information, including program and pricing, visit our event website.

If you have carried over your registration from the 2020 In-House Counsel Day, Teagan Jones, Conference and Event Manager, will be in touch with you before 15 December 2020 to confirm your current information.

Early Bird closes 6pm Friday March 19 with group rates available.
