"The Rise in State Enforcement over Traditionally Federal Issues"
Presented by Cozen O'Connor

Given the position of the federal administration that states should be taking more of an active role in the enforcement of many substantive areas where the federal government usually takes a predominant role, which we have already begun seeing, it is anticipated that there will be an increase in State AG enforcement in many areas that are traditionally handled by federal enforcement authorities. This panel will discuss those substantive areas that we see developing, and how companies should think about and prepare themselves for that switch, particularly where there are differences in enforcement priorities and the logistical and procedural handling of enforcement matters among the states as opposed to the federal government.

  • Nicole Sprinzen, Partner and Vice Chair, White Collar Crime & Investigations, Cozen O’Connor

Whether through a remote-first philosophy or brick-and-mortar expansion, an increasing number of employers are finding themselves in new jurisdictions grappling with a patchwork of state and local leave laws. As every state and an increasing number of municipalities pass their own versions of leave laws, employers operating across the United States must make seemingly endless updates to handbooks, policies, payroll systems, and more. Additionally, recruitment and retention efforts are driving employers to be more creative and empathetic when granting time off to employees.

Join Epstein Becker & Green, P.C. as we will provide a guide to navigating the diversity of state regulations, managing compliance, and coordinating leave policies for a geographically varied workforce. We will also consider trends in leave, such as flexible or unlimited paid time off policies, forms of bereavement or reproductive loss leave, and parental leave. This session will be an essential resource for multistate employers striving for legal compliance, operational efficiency, and positive employee relations.
