Help individuals clear their criminal records and open doors to opportunity!

An expungement allows individuals who have completed their sentence to dismiss misdemeanor criminal convictions if particular requirements are met, allowing them to move on with their lives and seek jobs and other opportunities that would otherwise not be available. Though the expungement process is fairly simple for trained attorneys, many individuals eligible for expungement are not familiar with the process and are unable to adequately prepare petition materials on their own behalf.

Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles (LAFLA) is hosting an expungement clinic during Pro Bono Week 2025 to provide record clearing relief to formerly incarcerated individuals.  Volunteer attorneys will be working in pairs under the supervision of a LAFLA attorney to help draft expungement petitions for individuals (the volunteer service ends at the conclusion of the clinic and LAFLA will take over to provide further guidance to the clients and their expungement hearing).  Training will be provided along with food sponsored by ACC-SoCal.
