Join us as we discuss the White House’s Executive Order on the Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence, which is far-reaching and mandates 150 action items for various agencies to implement an emerging national policy on AI. The Executive Order covers several important issues with development and use of AI, signals a strong interest in responsible use of AI by the government and U.S. companies, and focuses on the impact of AI on the work force. These issues include safety testing and standards for such tests, content authentication and privacy, cybersecurity and national security, equity and civil rights, consumer and worker protection, advancing US leadership in AI innovation and competition while collaborating with governments worldwide, and promoting the responsible use of AI by the U.S. government.

This program will address the scope of the Executive Order, how it fits with prior U.S. initiatives on AI, and how it impacts government contractors.

Presented by James Gatto, Partner and AI Team Co-Leader and Townsend Bourne, Partner and Government Business Group Co-Leader at Sheppard Mullin, together with Brian Craig, Assistant General Counsel at SAIC.

THE PFAS AND THE FURIOUS: MINNESOTA’S BURGEONING PFAS REGULATORY ENVIRONMENT (AND ITS POTENTIAL EFFECTS ON YOUR COMPANY)

Minnesota is at the forefront of states that have adopted laws regulating, restricting or prohibiting per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in a wide variety of products and packaging materials. At the same time, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has adopted a “PFAS Blueprint” that, among other things, set in motion requirements and guidance for hundreds of companies to test their air emissions, industrial stormwater and wastewater discharges, or solid and hazardous wastes for the presence of PFAS and to assess, investigate, and potentially, remediate PFAS contamination at certain sites involved in the Remediation program. In this presentation, we will provide an overview of these regulatory efforts, discuss the challenges other states and the businesses within them have faced in undertaking similar efforts, and offer suggestions on how you can help your company prepare for the road ahead.
