AGENDA:
  • 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. - Registration & Lunch

  • 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. - Presentation

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is not scary.  The robots aren't coming for your legal job.  It's not going to replace your decision-making.  And, frankly, at a functional level, this stuff isn't that hard to understand.  Certainly there are aggressive uses for AI, where everyone will need to proceed with caution.  Join us for this informative lunch session, where we will discuss everyday uses for AI that can offer a tremendous value, with no downside.

At its simplest level, AI adds additional structure to your data. This means more insight, and better context so that you'll have more control over your timelines and your budget.  Perhaps best of all, you'll spend less time on low value, process oriented tasks, and more time being a lawyer.  Document review is not about reviewing documents... it's about finding information.  Make sure you understand how AI will help you find more of what you are looking for sooner.

Disco's professionals will help you demystify AI by sharing their experience with advising both private and public companies.  Step away from your desk, enjoy a complimentary lunch and gain some valuable information and insight!

ACC Houston December Chapter Meeting CLE
Managing the Unmanageable in a Security Breach Response
(Rising to the Challenge of the Rogue Insider)

December 13, 2022 | 11:30 am - 1:00 pm | Maggiano's Little Italy

The panel will describe a very unique breach matter involving an insider threat, specifically a hospital medical staff physician who abandoned his home and left behind several reams of unprotected Protected Health Information (PHI) and over 100 computer and hand-held devices.

Do you know what information and from what sources your company is collecting data? If you had a security incident, would you know the laws with which you need to be compliant and what procedures to follow? Babst Calland Attorneys Nick Faas, Ember Holmes and Audra Hutter will walk attendees through a primer on data privacy, policy and compliance issues surrounding the intake of information from various sources and offer best practices on what the state law generally requires and whether the information collected is sensitive data.

Become familiar with two recent trends in marketing law:

  • “We’ll donate $1 to charity for every purchase of our widget” is becoming a more very common marketing tool, but did you know that almost half of the states have specific laws regulating these promotions?
  • Another newly-popular marketing tool is a brand’s use of influencers to promote their product on social media.  The FTC has recently stepped up enforcement of its regulations on social media influencers.

The presentation will help you navigate through this developing field and give you the opportunity to learn more about:

  • Cause marketing and commercial coventures, including contractual, advertising & registration requirements;
  • The newly-enacted CA AB-488 affecting online charitable solicitations;
  • The FTC guidelines for influencers and endorsements; and
  • Recent FTC enforcement activities against social media influencers.
