Kenton Oates
Director of Talent Acquisition, Gibson Arnold & Associates
Kenton Oates is a Director of Talent Acquisition for Texas and other national markets. Kenton utilizes his legal education and executive recruiting experience to develop and foster relationships with various legal professionals specializing in various roles and practice areas. After earning his law degree from The University of Tulsa College of Law in 2010, Kenton moved to Houston and worked in an Associate Commercial Counsel role for a small company in the midstream space. Kenton then transitioned to the recruiting industry, specializing in financial advisor placements, before joining Gibson Arnold & Associates as a recruiter in late 2017. Kenton is now in his 6th year with GAA, and he's developed a passion for matching attorneys with opportunities at in-house groups and law firms of all sizes.
Kay Brkic
Senior Manager, Legal Business Services, Deloitte
Kay is an experienced corporate lawyer and specialist in corporate governance, board matters, global subsidiary management, project management, and legal department transformation. She has led global legal entity rationalization programs and supported companies as they made significant legal entity changes through M&A and other transactions. Before joining Deloitte, she was client-centric manager for the global subsidiary function and legal entity rationalization teams for a Fortune 500 company. Kay left the practice of law by joining Deloitte where she handles legal business services matters. The US Deloitte firm does not practice law. She has worked for another alternative legal services practice (ALSP) group as well and enjoys the business of law as much as the practice.
Emily Shields
Sr. Vice President – Sustainability & Assistant General Counsel, MRC Global
Emily Shields currently serves as MRC Global’s Senior Vice President – Sustainability and Assistant General Counsel. Emily served previously as the company’s Assistant General Counsel and Compliance Officer leading corporate matters across areas of governance, business disputes and litigation, ethics and regulatory compliance, labor and employment, health, safety and environment, and their international legal group. Prior to joining MRC Global in 2013, Emily practiced litigation at the law firm of Morgan Lewis & Bockius L.L.P. in Houston, Texas. She holds a bachelor’s degree in speech communication from Texas A&M University and received her juris doctorate from South Texas College of Law. Emily is on the board of the Association of Corporate Counsel - Houston Chapter.
Mary Shannon Santee
Principal Counsel, Bechtel Corporation
Mary Shannon Santee is an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) attorney with more than 20 years of experience in the industry. She represents her in-house clients in negotiating a wide variety of EPC contracts for domestic and international projects and mega-projects. Prior to rejoining the legal team in February of 2022, she spent more than six years in commercial management and project management for Bechtel Energy Inc.’s liquefied natural gas business. Currently, Santee is based in Houston, Texas and is the Principal Counsel for Bechtel Manufacturing & Technology, Inc.

The Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) is a global bar association that promotes the common professional and business interests of in-house counsel who work for and whose primary responsibility is providing legal advice to corporations, associations and other private-sector organizations. Accordingly, the ACC Houston Chapter reserves the right to limit attendance at any of its Continuing Legal Education (CLE) events to ACC Houston Chapter members or non-ACC chapter member in-house attorneys only.
