ACC Northeast

ACC Northeast is pleased to partner with the Arts & Business Council of Greater Boston to present Get on Board!, a two-part virtual professional development workshop to be held December 11, 2020 from 8:30-10 a.m. and January 22, 2021 from 8:30-10 a.m.

Most non-profit organizations are in need of experienced business/legal professionals to share their unique expertise and passion for important causes. Business skills, enthusiasm, and the desire to make a positive difference can have a huge impact on any organization.  Get On Board! is an interactive workshop that will prepare you for the rewarding experience of volunteerism, non-profit leadership, and board participation.

In this workshop you will learn about the different types and structures of boards, as well as the roles, responsibilities, and legal obligations of non-profit board members. Jim Grace, Executive Director of the Arts & Business Council and Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, will lead the workshop focusing on the primary aspects of board stewardship including:

  • Philanthropy, its history and future;
  • Board member roles, governance and dynamics;
  • Legal overview and board role in human resources;
  • Financial management and tax overview;
  • Board role in fundraising and development strategies;
  • Strategic planning for long-term growth and stability.

NOTE: the FIRST session will focus on non-profit governance and legal and HR issues, and the SECOND session will focus on fundraising, non-profit finance, and finding a good match.

If you have always wanted to serve on the board of a non-profit, now is your chance to learn what is required and to find the organization that's right for you.
