907 From Problems to Opportunities: A Multidisciplinary Approach to Managing Environmental Liabilities

With so many companies turning to contractors to perform tasks outside of their core business, compliance with federal and state safety and health laws can be a challenge for your clients. In this program we will look at the ways to use contracts to mitigate your company's safety liabilities. We will examine each of the phases of a contract, pre-qualification, qualification, bidding, contract formation, administration, enforcement, corrective action, and disengagement. You will receive an overview of the legal issues involving use of contractors within your facilities.

What possibly could be more upsetting for a company than a notice of violation from an environmental agency? Receiving a notice that a citizen lawsuit will be filed in 60 days alleging an environmental violation. Many federal and state environmental laws contain provisions allowing enforcement by individuals acting as private attorneys general on behalf of the general public. Our expert panel will address the elements of a citizen lawsuit, and then focus on the current state of the law.

When it comes to green, the focus is no longer just on cars and smokestacks. Society at large—legislators and regulators in particular—are focusing on the third largest cause of greenhouse gases: commercial office and retail buildings. Learn from a panel of authorities about the types of environmentally enlightened actions and purchases that commercial-building owners and occupants will volunteer (or be required) to make—and how those actions and purchases affect the legal department.
