Join us for this rewarding and family-friendly volunteer activity. We will partner with the not-for-profit Harvest Crops and pick fruit from orange, grapefruit, and tangelo trees at a private residence in Lemon Grove, with the fresh produce going to low-income San Diego residents. Harvest Crops provides ladders, buckets, harvest poles, and gloves, but if you have your own gardening gloves, please bring them. Volunteers are encouraged to wear lightweight, protective clothing (long sleeve shirts and jeans to avoid scratches) and close-toed shoes.
To respect the privacy of the home-owner, we will meet first at the Carl’s Jr. Parking Lot (in rear), 7162 Broadway, Lemon Grove, CA 91945 (behind McDonald’s), where we will have a light breakfast and brief orientation. Then, we will caravan over to the residence. Children of all ages are welcomed with parental supervision.

The run up to the 2020 presidential election promises to be as divisive and tribalistic as our current political environment. Political ideology and affiliations create inevitable conflict in the workplace. In house counsel play key roles in counseling their corporate clients regarding promoting, prohibiting and playing politics in the workplace. The problem is not, of course, limited to water cooler talk in the office - political activities outside the workplace also create challenges as they also dramatically impact the employer’s workplace. While it is becoming a difficult (if not impossible) line to draw, the definition and regulation of “free speech” in the private workplace will be particularly challenging for employers given the Federal and state law limitations on the restriction and regulation of employee political activities inside and outside of the corporate workplace. This session, moderated by Jennifer Rubin at Mintz with in-house as well as HR panelists from private and publicly traded companies will explore the legal contours of regulating political speech inside and outside the workplace and provide practical guidance for in house counsel who are called upon to advise – and mediate – these disputes.
Panelists: Jennifer Rubin, Employment Attorney, Mintz San Diego Janette Piankoff, Ph.D., Director, HR and Organizational Dev., Sempra Energy Heather Anderson, Senior Corporate Counsel, Best Buy
