The U.S. Department of Justice has placed cybersecurity at the forefront of its enforcement priorities, introducing new initiatives that significantly impact companies and in-house counsel. In this session, our speakers will provide an insider’s view of DOJ’s recently announced Data Security Program, the Civil Cyber-Fraud Initiative, and related efforts aimed at strengthening information security compliance.

Through real-world case studies—including the Georgia Tech enforcement action and others—they will illustrate how DOJ is approaching enforcement, what lessons can be drawn, and how in-house counsel can proactively mitigate risk. Conducting Workplace Investigations

Description:

Maynard Nexsen attorneys Tim McConnell, Laura Mallory, and Zachary Henson will address how to effectively and efficiently conduct workplace investigations, including discussions of best practices as well as the “dos and don’ts” of directing investigations. They will also address how to respond to a complaint, when to utilize outside counsel, and how to best analyze the information gleaned from the investigation in order to formulate a remedy and resolution.

Significant legal ethics issues in 2025 are driven by rapid advancements in technology, particularly the utilization of artificial intelligence, concerns over data security, growing utilization of (and controversy surrounding) social media, and new work models.  This presentation will address each of those issues, with a particular emphasis on the growing number of jurisdictions and organizations developing guidelines for the ethical use of AI, the tension between increased social media use and attorney professionalism obligations and the challenges that remote and hybrid work arrangements create regarding the unauthorized practice of law.
