As deal making continues to rebound from the depths of the COVID-19 pandemic and associated financial fallout, the volume of activity in the aerospace, defense, and government technology and services markets has returned to 2019 levels and shows no signs of abating. Interest remains strong among both strategic and financial buyers.

We will provide advice and insight into the current market, deal structures, and the unique issues and risks presented when buying or selling a government contractor or its assets.

The panel will discuss small business rules, intellectual property rights, cybersecurity and supply-chain requirements, and CARES Act relief, among other topics of interests to both buyers and sellers in this space.

Presented by Michael McGill, Partner, Nancy Perkins, Counsel and Naomi Hartman, Senior Associate, with Arnold & Porter, Jean Stack, Managing Director and Co-Head Government & Defense Investment Banking at Baird and Jim Winner, EVP, Chief Legal Officer, General Counsel & Secretary at Peraton.

Moderated by Steven S. Diamond, Partner, Government Contracts/National Security with  Arnold & Porter.

This session is for informational purposes only, no MCLE credit will be offered.

In August 2020, ACC NCR presented, “Implicit Bias + Debiasing” that explored the origins of our hidden biases and how those all too human reactions inform our lives, careers and institutions in ways that, though often well intentioned, are not always constructive or helpful.  Using real world examples, we examined everyday biases, microaggressions and other dynamics that impact perceptions of workplace fairness, employee engagement and, when unchallenged, may lead to diminished operational effectiveness or even legal/reputational risks.

To expand upon that discussion, in this session we will explore specific, actionable and measurable tactics, routines and behaviors that we all can implement to actively “debias” ourselves, our teams, our workplaces and by extension, our profession.

Join us for this important conversation on what we can do as individuals to identify and ultimately eliminate the biases that lead to error, inaccurate perceptions and unfairness in our professional environments.

Presented by John Lewis, Jr., Partner with Shook Hardy & Bacon, Naomi Mercer, Senior Vice President, Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion at American Bankers Association and Jeniffer M. De Jesus Roberts,Vice President, Deputy General Counsel at Booz Allen Hamilton

This session is for informational purposes only, no MCLE credit will be offered.

Attention all GCs and CLOs!  Join our Diamond and Emerald Sponsors for our 3rd Annual GC/CLO Summit where we will discuss the GC's/CLO’s role in Diversity, Inclusion, Equity and Belonging, followed by a social hour.  The Summit's sessions are specifically designed for and open to General Counsel and Chief Legal Officers only.

The educational part of this event will be followed by a virtual social hour, and the Chapter will be donating $100 per social hour attendee to the Philadelphia Bar Foundation to support our Chapter’s Diversity Internship Program.

AGENDA:
  • Session I — 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. — Diversity in the Boardroom presented by Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP

This session will consist of a panel discussion among a Chief Diversity Officer, in-house counsel and outside counsel that will address the unspoken reasons for our current board landscape, different types of diversity, the legal requirements and other stakeholders pushing to increase diversity, and steps some companies have taken to try to lead the way forward.
BREAK: 2:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • Session II — 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. — The General Counsel's role in Diversity, Inclusion, Equity and Belonging presented by Dechert LLP

This panel will explore the ways in which General Counsels and their in-house attorneys can promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging within their own law departments.  Specifically, the panel will explain how stakeholders, boards of directors, and the public will demand that companies prioritize DE&I, especially given the role of DE&I in the Biden administration.  The panel will discuss racial equity audits, which are now becoming common in government, as a critical tool for companies to use to identify issues and minimize litigation risk, and share specific strategies that companies are using to build up their DE&I programming.
BREAK: 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Session III — 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. — Driving Innovation, Creativity, and Effective Strategy:  The Positive Impact of Diverse Teams on Addressing Trends in Litigation and Government Enforcement presented by Cozen O'Connor

Diverse outside counsel teams drive innovative, creative and effective representation in litigation and government enforcement matters.  Diverse teams also cultivate rich and rewarding partnerships with in-house counterparts.  The panelists look forward to sharing their personal experiences as leaders of their practice groups and law department, and highlighting current consumer protection litigation and enforcement trends that GCs/CLOs should take note of for 2021 and beyond.
BREAK: 5:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.

We look forward to seeing you there!

We are starting off our 2021 webinar series with a discussion on corporate communications, a topic everyone has been tackling in 2020 and 2021.  Our  sponsor and ACC-GA communications agency, Poston Communications will host this webinar.  ACC members Alina Lee and Yoon Ettinger will join with moderator Dave Poston to discuss the analysis of the “The Survey of In-House Legal Counsel Oversight of, and/or Interaction with, Corporate Communications.“ We have some fantastic trends and insights to share during this webinar.

The survey and our panelist insights will provide attendees with information they need to assess communications responsibilities and capabilities of their legal department, as well as discuss in-house attorneys’ knowledge of and comfort executing communications initiatives on behalf of their organizations. This webinar will provide you with information you need to benchmark best practices on how you can lead the integration of legal and communications to the greater success of both.  Our panel, with their extensive experience overseeing corporate communication in high-stakes matters, will provide real-life examples and actionable insights.

We are excited that Alina Lee, former senior corporate counsel for MailChimp and partner at Your Ad Attorney, LLC, and Yoon Ettinger, chief counsel, litigation and claims for Southern Company Gas, are joining the panel and thankful that they have stepped in to join  this discussion. Due to this change, however, we are moving the webinar to Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. CLE credit is currently pending for this session.

Register today to attend the webinar, where the survey results will be presented.

Thank you to those who completed “The Survey of In-House Legal Counsel Oversight of, and/or Interaction with, Corporate Communications.”  We look forward to next week’s presentation.

ACC NCR invites our 2021 Annual Relationship Sponsors, chapter leaders, and all members to join us for a virtual reception to kick off the new year.  The reception will start with insight into plans for 2021, followed by small-group networking.

If you haven't attended one of our online networking events, we hope you will give it a try - previous attendees have found them to be a rewarding and engaging experience.  Each annual relationship sponsor organization may send two (2) representatives to this event (Diamond sponsor may send three (3)).
