Please join us on Thursday, November 9th at the offices of Norton Rose Fulbright for a GC panel discussion of the findings of Norton Rose Fulbright's Annual Litigation Trends Survey. Jeff Webb and Alicia Grant will moderate a roundtable discussion with general counsel panelists, share insights and analysis of the state of the legal landscape, and offer considerations for how your organization may be impacted.  Networking reception to follow!

As states become more and more focused on unclaimed property audits as a revenue source, businesses must be prepared for the ever-evolving landscape of unclaimed property audits, compliance expectations, legal requirements, and litigation. One of the major difficulties with unclaimed property law is that it is not uniform across the states and U.S. Territories.  In addition, your business may be a Holder of unclaimed property in multiple jurisdictions, not just the ones in which it operates. This CLE will focus on an overview of what is unclaimed property, the major differences in unclaimed property laws and requirements, with a focus on Alabama’s Uniform Disposition of Unclaimed Property Act of 2004.  In addition, the CLE will cover the states’ increased focus on unclaimed property audits, responding to an unclaimed property audit, and risks associated with ignoring unclaimed property audits.  The CLE will conclude with recommendations and a discussion of best practices to avoid unclaimed property audits or to minimize their risks.

Following Students for Fair Admissions, What Comes Next for DEI and ESG Initiatives

The impact of the Supreme Court’s decision to strike down race-conscious admissions programs at Harvard University and the University of North Carolina is reverberating far beyond institutions of higher education. Corporate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs and environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives are under fire from shareholders, state governments and outsiders alike.  The financial industry faces its own unique challenges stemming from Dodd-Frank’s recommendations to adopt DEI standards and submit annual DEI reports to regulators.

In this roundtable discussion moderated by Ballard Spahr attorney Karla Vehrs, her colleagues Kahlil Williams, Brendan K. Collins, and Charles G. Frohman will cover the effects seen to date in the areas of regulatory affairs, sustainability, securities litigation, corporate governance and employment law, how businesses are choosing to respond, and what the future looks like for DEI and ESG initiatives. Join our panel as they share their experiences navigating this important, evolving issue.
